Head of Primary/Lower School

Derby Academy, a Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 8 co-educational day school seeks a Head of Primary/Lower School beginning in July 2021. The School is located in Hingham Massachusetts, a beautiful commuter community on the South Shore of Boston. Rooted in the School’s motto, “Improve Both Mind and Heart,” Derby provides students with a joyful and rigorous academic environment. The Head of Primary/Lower School will serve as the division leader and support all students and faculty to build a strong community of learners.

The Head of Primary/Lower School reports to the Head of School and is a member of the senior administrative team. The Head is supported by an administrative assistant and a support services team consisting of a nurse, a counselor, and learning specialists. In addition to the classroom teachers and assistant teachers, there is a team of ‘specials teachers’ who teach art, music, Spanish, STEM, health and wellness, and research and information skills.

The successful candidate will be an experienced Primary/Lower School leader and a skilled early childhood teacher who loves children and enjoys being in the classroom and engaged with students, teachers, and parents. Importantly, the head will be a culturally competent and thoughtful educator with a demonstrated commitment to and skill in leading an integrated curricular approach to embracing and ensuring equity, inclusion, and belonging from the earliest years.
