Dept Marketing Statement The Psychology Department currently has 29 academic FTE, an administrative staff of seven, and makes several temporary academic staff appointments each year. The Psychology Department has over 1900 undergraduate students declared and proposed in the Cognitive Science and Psychology majors and 69 Psychology PhD graduate students. The Psychology Department Faculty and Staff are all currently housed in Social Sciences 2, College 10. The undergraduate advising team consists of the two full-time undergraduate advisors and the Field Study Prorgram Director.
The Psychology department staff promote a strong spirit of teamwork and embrace UCSC's Principles of Community in meeting the needs of a diverse range of constituents.
Involves counseling students on academic program policies and issues. Monitors student academic progress and assists students in making appropriate educational choices and decisions. Conducts informational sessions and provides advice.
Applies professional concepts to independently provide prescriptive advice on academic policies and procedures for the Psychology Department, including Cognitive Science and Psychology major requirements, and all aspects of course requirements for degree completion.
Under the general direction of the Administrative Manager, the Undergraduate Advising Team has full programmatic responsibility for the administration of the Psychology Undergraduate Advising Program.
Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule Salary Information: Salary range: $25.86 - $27.78/hour. Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience.

Job Duties 30% Applies professional concepts to independently provide prescriptive advice and assistance to students on academic and degree progress and major requirements for the department.
25% Monitors and evaluates students' completion of academic requirements.
10% Recruit, train and supervise student peer advisors. Interview, hire, train and supervise student workers.
5% Identifies student needs for programs and services and refers students to non-academic resources as appropriate.
5% Applies articulated courses to program / degree requirements and certifies degree completion.
5% Advises on moderately complex issues such as multiple degrees, or withdrawal from the University.
5% Advises department on scheduling needs for student course progression and requirements completion.
5% Communicates and exchanges information with other units of the organization and makes referrals to help students with their academic program (e.g., health service, disabled students program, Colleges / Schools, transfer center, academic departments)
5% Provides information to students on programs with special, clearly articulated eligibility requirements such as honors programs, awards, fellowships, scholarships, and advanced level courses.
5% Advocate student interests; recommend academic policies and procedures both to CUA/Committee on Undergraduate Affairs, Department Chair and Division.
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Basic knowledge of advising and counseling techniques.
Skills in judgment and decision-making, problem solving.
Abilities in problem identification, reasoning, ability to develop original idea to solve problems.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including active listening.
Ability to multi-task.
Proven communication and interpersonal skills, with faculty and students, with individuals and large groups from diverse backgrounds.
Demonstrated ability to exercise good judgment and discretion with confidential matters
