Registered Nurse (RN) - Health Services - (20001719)
We provide primary care to undergraduate and graduate students in a multidisciplinary setting. Our team consists of physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, psychiatrists, medical assistants, lab technicians, drug and alcohol counselors, social workers, mental health counselors and support staff. Duties of the registered nurse include direct patient care that utilizes many skills, especially assessment and communication. Patient teaching, both informal (at the time of visit) and through planned outreach programs, provides a mechanism to contribute to the student's overall education. Relevant topics for this teaching include women's health issues, sexual assault, HIV, Gay/Lesbian/Transgender issues, substance abuse, ETOH abuse, just to name a few.

The Registered Nurse is expected to be a member of a clinical team. He/She must be able to function independently, communicate well with students, parents, peers, support staff and management. The ability to efficiently triage, prioritize, initiate and follow through with treatments is expected. Working in travel clinic, administering immunizations and allergy injections safely are all aspects of this position. Strong computer skills are also essential to work with the electronic medical system we are now using. The Registered Nurse will also assist the clinical staff and ensures the efficient flow of patients through the department.
Knowledge and experience typically acquired by:
Minimum of 5 years of direct patient care.
RN license in Massachusetts, BLS certifiTriage/phone triage experience, strong computer skills are required.
Previous experience with and facility in using an electronic medical record.
Excellent communication skills, written, verbal and the ability to communicate well with a diverse, college age population are also required.
Teamwork and flexibility are key skills.
Restocking room with medical supplies requires the ability to lift.
Ambulatory, outpatient care is highly desirable.
Emergency nursing experience is also welcomed, as well as phlebotomy.
Telephone triage skills, and prior experience with a college aged population a plus.
Immunization administration and other services are offered at Health Service .
Special Work Schedule Requirements: Position is 35 hours per week. We would also consider a 40 week assignment if that is of interest to selected candidate.
