Academic Exploration Advisor, Center for Academic Support and Advisement

The Academic Exploration Advisor assists students who have not declared a major or wanting to explore other academic options or areas of interests and students denied admission to specific academic programs. The advisor identifies, contacts, and tracks students with undeclared majors through formal advising campaigns and reports on the campaign results. The position assists with walk-in hours, departmental email, advisor assignments, and New Student Orientation. Duties include: meets one-one-one with current and prospective students/families to discuss major/career options; organizes orientation advising sessions for undeclared students; teaches multiple sections of USTU courses targeted at helping students find a major; administers inventories (Focus II, MBTI, SII) to students and hold meetings to discuss results; creates/maintains resources and/or holds events appropriate for academic exploration; maintains the Clear Path for Advising and TN Transfer Pathway Guide online resources; plans and executes the campus-wide Majors Fair; develops/maintains relationships with academic and student service departments; coordinates with departments to identify and advises students who are not meeting progression requirements; serves as a referral for faculty/professional advisors when meeting with students who are unsure of their academic path; and other duties as assigned.
