Position Description: This is a full-time (40hrs/week) benefited position dependent upon continued funding. PROJECT SUMMARY: The Making Accessible and Effective Systems for Teacher Readiness Outcomes (MAESTROs) Project aims to improve retention and completion rates for Hispanic and low-income students on the academic pathway to become teachers, and prepare these students for urgent local and statewide teacher workforce needs. The MAESTROs Outreach, Engagement and Student Transition Coordinator will report to the MAESTROs Project Coordinator, and to the Project Directors, the Principal Investigators of the CSUMB Title 5 HSI Grant, funded by the U.S. Department of Education.
DEFINITION: Under the general supervision of the MAESTROs Project Coordinator and Project Directors, and the Dean of the College of Education (COE); the Outreach, Engagement and Student Transition Coordinator will facilitate and coordinate community outreach (e.g., highschools, community colleges, county office of education) regarding CSUMB education degree and credential pathways. The Outreach, Engagement and Student Transition Coordinator will provide transition support to CSUMB education pathway programs with seamless transfer towards degree and credential completion, and oversee the day to day operations of all outreach events, including planning, administering and supervising staff. The Outreach, Engagement and Student Transition Coordinator will develop and support key academic transition periods from high school to college/university, from community college to university, and from undergraduate to post-baccalaureate credential and masters programs. In collaboration with advisors, the Outreach, Engagement and Student Transition Coordinator will advise, interview, and counsel prospective students pursuing education programs at CSUMB.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following: Student Outreach, Orientation, and Transition Support Plan, coordinate, and implement outreach activities (e.g., transfer days, college career fairs) that showcase CSUMB Education pathway programs in Elementary, Secondary, and Special Education, and maintain COE presence at local community colleges, feeder high schools, schools districts, and county offices of education. Develops outreach plans in collaboration with the COE and single subject discipline (e.g., math, history) department chairs, program directors, and advisors. Serves as a spokesperson during outreach efforts and orientation events Maintains a prospective student list and prepares monthly reports reflecting outreach efforts including vital statistical information required by Department Chairs and COE Dean. Evaluates prospective student needs and connects them to resources and support services; utilizes territory reports to follow up with prospective students within the tri-county area, as well as statewide. Oversees the development and dissemination of culturally appropriate marketing and publicity materials and follow-up messaging. Maintains and coordinates electronic messaging and outreach communications with community college and feeder high school students. Provides pre-admission counseling for high school and community college students on a walk-in and/or appointment basis. Provides detailed information as appropriate on CSUMB admission practices and policies in support of the applicant. Serves as liaison with community college and high school counselors, CSUMB faculty, and students. Participates in advisement related activities and meetings, Orientation/Registration, University outreach efforts, major fairs, preview days and open house, as well as relevant statewide and national conferences and/or regional meetings. Facilitates the transfer of prospective students to postsecondary institutions, including community colleges, by effective outreach and advising, and through the articulation of courses and requirements. Advocate, support, and guide students to appropriate resources that will enhance their transition into education pathway programs to enhance academic success. Be assigned to specific First-Year Seminar and other key freshman courses to collaborate with faculty on integrating transition support services to ensure an integrated support model. Prepares and delivers presentations and workshops to inform high school and transfer students about advising and educational career-related services and programs, e.g. professional development, advising processes and outcomes, campus services, and resources. Ensures smooth handoff and connection to CSUMB major and credential advisors, while providing ongoing support for students through collaboration with advising and other student support offices and staff.
College Outreach and Transition Program Coordination, Development, and Implementation Plan, develop and implement COE outreach and transition support services, and ensure that the services are in accordance with grant requirements. Plan and coordinate data collection and analysis to monitor the impact of the outreach position and student support activities on student success (e.g., persistence and degree completion) Collaborate with partner institutions in the planning, delivery, and evaluation of collaborative programs. Coordinate with appropriate units within the University in the development of outreach, engagement and transition services. Develop and maintain partnerships and communications with community groups, community-based organizations, Monterey County Office of Education, and applicable agencies, school districts, community colleges, and nonprofit organizations supporting the CSUMB educational pathway programs. Establish and maintain effective and positive professional relationships and communications in order to work collaboratively with COE program related faculty and staff, other Colleges and units at CSUMB.
Student/Academic Counseling Provides information, and assistance to students regarding specific requirements for admissions to CSUMB undergraduate and post baccalaureate Education Programs. Collaborates with other campus-wide outreach, advising, and student support services focused on the retention of students, e.g., academic probation and at-risk students. Participates in campus-wide student support training and workshops, as deemed appropriate by the Dean of the College of Education in consultation with the Transfer Success Center. Evaluates existing services and student needs by attending and participating in CSUMB meetings and collaborative meetings with partner institutions. Evaluates and makes recommendations for existing services and student needs by attending workshops and conferences.

PHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT: Typical office environment with standard equipment and tasks. Position is required to work at a computer/video display terminal and desk for extended periods of time. Travel required between campus offices and off-campus locations. Must have their own transportation, valid driver's license, and auto insurance. This position also requires sitting, standing, bending, pushing, talking and using manual dexterity, eye-hand coordination. Ability to lift 5-10 lbs
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Working knowledge of the practices, procedures and activities of College programs, general knowledge of the methods and approaches to organizational and program management, and public relations. General knowledge of student outreach, support and counseling, research and interview techniques, and of the principles of individual and group behavior.
Ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations; use initiative and resourcefulness in planning work assignments and in implementing long-range program improvements; obtain factual and interpretive information through interviews; reason logically, collect, compile, analyze and evaluate data and make verbal or written presentations based on these data; advise students individually and in groups on routine matters multicultural, multi-sexed and multi aged value systems and work accordingly; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, CSU administrators, student organizations, private and public agencies and others in committee work, and student advising and community contacts; and, rapidly acquire a general knowledge of the overall operation, functions and programs of the campus to which assigned. Demonstrated ability to make decisions and carry through actions having implications with regard to other program or service areas Services Office.
Minimum Qualifications: Experience: Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth. A masters degree in a job related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience.
Education: Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job related field. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis. Must be able to work flexible hours in support of job function.
Specialized Skills: Ability to complete and pass training in Defensive Driving. Must continue to meet the established driving standards as a condition of employment. Demonstrated ability to address the essential functions associated with this position including the knowledge and abilities identified above.
Preferred Qualifications: Masters degree in College Counseling, Student Affairs, or related field; or California Preliminary Multiple Subjects Teaching Credential; or Preliminary Education Specialist Preliminary Teaching Credential; and/or public school teaching experience. Second language fluency English Spanish. Technical fluency with Microsoft Office Professional Suite; Oracle-PeopleSoft/CMS baseline information system; Access; Hyperion (Brio); TMA, or similar maintenance management system; and Google mail and calendaring programs.
Specialized Skill Requirements Demonstrated experience that clearly provides evidence of the knowledge and skills required to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements identified above are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required. Ability to complete web-based Defensive Driving training and continue to meet the established driving standards as a condition of employment. Extensive experience with computers MAC/PC and fluency using standard software packages, such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.

Compensation and Benefits: The University Corporation is committed to providing our employees with a comprehensive program that rewards efforts that are appreciated by your colleagues, students, and the customers we serve. The monthly salary rate for this position is $4,854. This is an exempt position and as such is not eligible for the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, and life insurance benefits, contributory retirement plan, TSA (403b), 13 paid holidays per year and other benefits.
