The Department of Pediatrics, Division of Pediatric Genetics at the University of Rochester Medical Center is seeking 2 full-time genetic counselors to join our team at Golisano Children’s Hospital. URMC is a major genetics service provider in upstate New York with highly successful genetics programs in pediatrics, adult medicine, neurogenetics, ocular genetics and prenatal/reproductive genetics. Our current clinical programs include Inborn Metabolic Disorders, General Pediatric Genetics clinics, in-patient consultation service and the collaborative multidisciplinary Craniofacial Team Clinic. We are in a major growth phase and increasing our programs to include multiple disciplines. Successful candidates are expected to share clinical and teaching responsibilities with other genetic counselors in the Division, as well as collaborate with and support other specialty divisions. As we continue to expand our team, counselors will have the opportunity to sub-specialize in one of several areas including: nephrology, endocrinology, hematology/oncology, metabolic genetics, pulmonology, and others. Successful candidates will have support for continuing professional development. Research is encouraged and will be facilitated as well as local, national and international opportunities to educate others.

Successful candidates should have a Master’s Degree in Genetic Counseling from an American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) Accredited Program, have either successfully passed the ABGC Board Certification Exam (and be in good standing) or are Board eligible and must plan to take the exam within the next year. Applicants should have excellent communication skills in regards to both patients and colleagues, enjoy working with children of all ages, seek a collaborative work environment and be capable of utilizing electronic medical record systems.
