Job Title: University Dean for Libraries and Information Resources (University Dean) Job ID: 22124 Location: Central Office Full/Part Time: Full-Time Regular/Temporary: Regular POSITION DETAILS The City University of New York (CUNY) seeks a dynamic and visionary leader to serve as University Dean for Libraries and Information Resources and guide the federation of 31 campus libraries at 24 colleges. The University Dean provides strategic vision and leadership in developing, implementing and assessing CUNY library initiatives and digital resources for the University, and takes a lead role in the integration of CUNY libraries and digital resources with teaching, learning, and research activities at CUNY. Reporting to and with the support of the Associate University Provost and other senior members of the academic leadership, the University Dean establishes a strategic vision for CUNY Libraries and digital resources for curriculum development, student learning and research, and faculty scholarship. The University Dean will advance the library as a forum for creating digital collaborations where students and faculty can explore innovative approaches to information technologies, data, and digital services. The University Dean's goals include developing materials acquisition, OER and publishing platforms, and digital preservation initiatives to raise CUNY's profile and to share its scholarship with global communities; seeking opportunities to expand CUNY access to licensed resources; and negotiating terms of use and data privacy on university and enterprise platforms. The University Dean also seeks external support for CUNY Libraries through public and private funding. The University Dean collaborates with CUNY's Council of Chief Librarians, Information Technology Steering Committee, Chief Academic Officers Council, Administrative Council, Committee on Academic Technology, Office of Research, Computer Information Services, Office of General Counsel, senior administration, and other stakeholders. The University Dean provides strategic vision and leadership in developing, implementing and assessing CUNY library initiatives and digital resources for the University, and takes a lead role in the integration of CUNY libraries and digital resources with teaching, learning, and research activities at CUNY. The University Dean leads the CUNY Office of Library Services (OLS) to provide centralized services to the University's libraries that comprises the third-largest university library system in the United States, with nine million print volumes, 250 faculty and professional staff, and 370 additional staff. The OLS has 10 full-time and 9 part-time professional staff, oversees the expenditure of $55 million annually on e-resources, enterprise technology platforms, and discovery and delivery services that support all CUNY libraries. OLS manages and coordinates the CUNY-wide library services platform, discovery, and authentication; cataloging and records management; centralized e-resource procurement and licensing; a centralized scholarly communications office and repository platform; Open Educational Resources (OER) funding and implementation. QUALIFICATIONS This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience. The successful candidate will have the following experience, knowledge, skills and abilities: The Dean will hold a Master's in Library Information Studies (MLIS), or closely related discipline from an ALA-accredited institution, with a second graduate degree required; a strong background in higher education setting and a record of scholarly accomplishment. The successful candidate will have experience in leadership and interdisciplinary collaboration in a dynamic academic environment, will have effective consultative, negotiation, and communication skills, and will be committed to diversity and promoting a culture that nurtures inquiry and scholarship across multiple disciplines.
