General DescriptionThe Department of Innovative Teaching and Leadership at the Johns Hopkins University School of Education (JHUSOE) invites applicants for the position of Director of Clinical Faculty supporting our partnership with Urban Teachers. The School of Education ranks #15 among the nation's finest graduate education programs according to the latest ranking from U.S. News and World Report, and Johns Hopkins is ranked #11 in the global ranking of all universities. As described by the School of Education's vision here, SOE is committed to addressing growing societal and educational inequity, and diverse candidates are encouraged to apply. Through this partnership with Urban Teachers (UT), JHUSOE offers a two-year Master of Science in Education degree that is integrated into a four-year teacher preparation program that results in the degree as well as dual certification in a content area and special education. The first year of the program includes a residency in a host teacher's classroom. The mission of Urban Teachers is to improve educational and life outcomes of children in urban schools by preparing culturally competent, effective career teachers who accelerate student achievement and disrupt systems of racial and socioeconomic inequity. Urban Teachers accomplishes this by recruiting outstanding candidates, equipping them with state-of-the-art teacher preparation, and linking their certification to their demonstration of effective teaching practices and skills. Urban Teachers residents and teachers will provide the necessary proof points to make a national case for educator effectiveness and accountability. The DC site currently has 50 faculty serving nearly 400 students, with an average of 140 course sections offered each year over the Summer, Fall, and Spring semesters. The Director of Clinical Faculty Role: In addition to a background in K12 education and teacher preparation, ideal candidates for this position will have experience creating a vision for a diverse team and developing a plan to achieve that vision, be an excellent oral and written communicator, and ground work and decisions in equity for all stakeholders, including faculty, teachers, and students. While the DCF reports to the JHU Faculty Lead, the DCF also works closely with the site executive team. Position hours are full-time and require some evening and weekend work.
