UC San Diego Health's Physician Group Practice Manager of Surgical Specialties offers an exciting career in Outpatient Surgical clinic operations as an administrative leader. This job will require the selected candidate to develop a strong understanding of Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS), Colorectal Surgery, and Gastroenterology sub-specialty clinic operations in order to provide leadership to the front line team members and leadership within their organizational structure. This leader will also partner with the Department of Surgery leadership, Division Chiefs and Clinic Medical Directors to optimize experience, efficiency, and access to care for our patients.
This position assumes HR responsibilities of the directly supervising clinic staff, ensuring staff competence, evaluating staff, counseling staff including disciplinary actions, staff development, rewards and recognition, timekeeping, attendance logs, manage time-off requests, screening potential new clinic hires and assisting with the interviewing and hiring of new clinic employees. Must possess a clear understanding of UCSD Ambulatory Care's organizational goals and initiatives to improve our patient's experience and to ensure delivery of safe, effective, timely and high-quality care. This position will coordinate with cultivate relationships across the organization with internal ancillary services like IT, HR, finance, and transformational health care team, etc. Based upon specialty needs, this job will require developing and managing relationships with vendors. All leaders will be expected to report out clinical and administrative leadership on the clinic's financial performance on a monthly cadence.
Background: This position of administrative services and operations for health care clinics or centers typically includes operations, fiscal management, program planning, and/or external marketing activities in accordance with federal, local, and internal standards, policies, and regulations. Management levels may include oversight of clinical patient care. Supervises clinic operations, typically spanning multiple providers, clinics and/or practices. Subordinates include staff involved with professional operational functions. Oversight of administrative areas such as practice revenue management, billing systems, and procedures, facilities, and safety procedures, registration, new patient coordination, scheduling, medical records storage, and maintenance, insurance authorizations. May also supervise patient support staff such as medical assistants, LVNs, Techs, and nursing. Bachelor's Degree in related area; and/or equivalent combination of experience/training.
A minimum five (5+) or more years of relevant experience.
Recent ambulatory care supervisory or leadership experience.
Must have exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
Experience in surgery operations management is highly desired.
Related experience in the General surgery, Minimally invasive surgery, Colorectal Surgery, Internal Medicine, or GI is preferred.
Expert knowledge of data management tools such as Excel, Pivot Tables, Tableau, Press Ganey, SharePoint, SalesForce etc.
Knowledgeable in surgical and healthcare terminology.
Private practice and/or academic healthcare setting experience is a plus.
Previous electronic medical record experience, preferably EPIC.
Broad range of Microsoft suite such as Outlook, Teams, Word, Powerpoint, and Excel.
Experience developing care teams.
Knowledge about best billing practices and high level processes.
Project management experience.
Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
