RBC has an exciting leadership opportunity to establish and oversee the Private Markets group supporting RBC Wealth Management’s operations in Canada, the British Isles, and Asia. As the Head of Private Markets, you will champion the sound deployment of private markets solutions in the portfolio management process. You will build out the support model for RBC WM Advisors, create a managed platform of private markets offerings, and develop the related operational infrastructure and governance processes. You will assist Advisors in business development efforts with Ultra High Net Worth clients and be an expert and spokesperson for important and highly-visible business development opportunities and other speaking engagements, including important recruiting, client, and investment committee meetings.
What will you do?
Establish and build out the Private Markets team, overseeing the hiring and management of team members in support of our businesses in Canada, the British Isles, and Asia. Establish the market for private markets solutions by building out relationships and visibility with key Advisors and Branch Managers.
Partner with RBC WM Global Manager Research to identify, due diligence, and negotiate capacity with select high quality asset managers to develop a fulsome offering of private capital solutions and hedge funds for distribution to HNW and UHNW clients.
Chair the Alternatives Oversight Committee charged with approving platform decisions and guidelines for distribution. Develop risk-rating process to ensure sound and suitable distribution of private markets solutions in accordance with client objectives, knowledge, and risk tolerance. Ensure distribution processes align with CSA Client Focused Reforms.
Play an active role in the Canadian, British Isles, and Asian Investment Committees, setting investment policy, strategic and tactical asset allocation, and advising on fulfillment solutions impacting discretionary and advisory portfolios to ensure a consistent global view and message around alternative investments.
Be a visible champion for private markets solutions by developing educational and training materials for Advisors and clients and providing timely and insightful commentaries on market developments and recommendations.
Partner with several internal stakeholders (Legal, Compliance, Risk, Operations and product management teams), RBC Capital Markets, and RBC Global Asset Management.
Develop long term distribution relationships with domestic and global asset managers. Work with third party infrastructure vendors to develop a feeder fund capacity to meet this demand.
What do you need to succeed?
University education with 10+ years’ direct industry experience in the alternatives (private equity, hedge funds and private credit) / private capital space
People leadership experience such as coaching, mentoring and developing a team.
Experience in the due diligence and selection of alternative / private markets solutions and extensive relationships with a highly regarded reputation for leading private asset managers, both in Canada and globally.
Strong background in legal, regulatory, and governance issues related to the private markets space.
CFA designation and CAIA designation.
Nice to Have
Previous work experience in working with Retail Advisors.
Experience in an IIROC or WM business environment.
Experience in technology and systems integration.
Fluency in French.
