Genetic Counselor - Division of Medical Genetics

The Department of Pediatrics at McGovern Medical School at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) is currently recruiting two BC/BE full time clinical genetic counselors. Both positions include a faculty appointment commensurate with experience and qualifications. The candidate will join a vibrant clinical practice that includes 3 MD Medical Geneticists, 1 MD/PhD Medical Geneticist, 5 Genetic Counselors, and 2 Metabolic Dieticians in an academic setting providing comprehensive genetic services. Position Key Accountabilities:
Successful candidates for position 1 will have the opportunity to participate in provision of medical genetic services with a 50% commitment to inpatient consultative services at Memorial Hermann Hospital/Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital and the other 50% time dedicated to provision of care through a Teratogen Hotline service. There is potential for involvement in research projects as another aspect of the position. The position will include teaching of genetic counseling masters students, medical students, residents and fellows at McGovern Medical School. Spanish speaking candidates preferred but not required
Successful candidates for position 2 will coordinate our provision of services at the Harris County Hospital District (HCHD) including outpatient clinics at the CEO Clinic of HCHD and inpatient consultation at the LBJ Hospital. This individual will also work in the Lysosomal Storage Diseases (LSD) Center of Excellence. There is potential for involvement in research projects as another aspect of the position. The position will include teaching of genetic counseling masters students, medical students, residents and fellows at McGovern Medical School. The candidate must be bilingual in Spanish and English.

The selected candidate for the position must have a Master's Degree in Genetic Counseling. Must be board eligible or board certified. Qualified applicants must demonstrate a commitment to excellence, discovery and service, have potential to be outstanding in their field of expertise, and share an interest in fulfilling the common goals of McGovern Medical School at UTHealth. The candidate for position 2 must be bilingual in Spanish and English.
