DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS , Office of the Provost , to work closely with the provost to advance mission-critical initiatives and actions using strategic communications. Will serve as a thought partner to the provost and associate provosts; provide communications advice; develop communication strategy/plans; oversee the implementation of communications activities that advance the work of the provost's team, increases engagement and buy-in from the MIT community, and supports the mission of MIT; and play an important role within a network of communications professionals across MIT who share information and coordinate on an ongoing basis. Key partners include the vice president for communications, senior communications advisor to the president, senior advisor to the chancellor, colleagues across schools/departments, and communication and strategy leaders in the offices of the deans and associate provosts.
Job Requirements REQUIRED : bachelor's degree; ten years' experience in strategic communications; ability to strategize; excellent strategic planning, writing, and editing skills; appreciation MIT's distinctive culture and values; demonstrated leadership skills; proficiency with a range of communication platforms (i.e., print, video, photography, audio, email, social media, web); initiative; a command of communications best practices across a range of topics, with special sensitivity to DEI; and discretion and judgment with complex, confidential, and sensitive information. Must be able to make complex information comprehensible and compelling for a wide range of readers; write to deadline in many styles depending on audience/content/platform; work collaboratively and flexibly on teams and with diverse stakeholders; manage multiple projects and competing priorities simultaneously in a rapidly changing environment.
