The overall responsibility of the Assistant College Counselor is to assist students through various aspects of the college application process, primarily focused on the students’ writing. Additionally, the Assistant College Counselor is responsible for collecting/managing all teacher recommendations, and performing additional tasks as needed in the College Counseling Office. College Essays & Writing Supplements:
Schedule one-on-one sessions with students to support them in the writing process (including but not limited to assisting with brainstorming, planning, writing, and editing).
Responsible for creating and implementing a curriculum for the college essay process for the Perspectives in Learning course in the spring semester.
Facilitate the supplemental writing process in the fall semester, create Google Document with the student for organizational purposes when necessary; share with parents (when appropriate) and college counselors; aid students in researching schools for the purpose of answering supplement prompts; brainstorm, develop, assist with writing.
Support many rising seniors and their families during the summer months to introduce them to the Common Application.
Assist seniors with completing each section of the Common Application if necessary.
Edit the final version of the completed Common Application for seniors and their college counselors as needed. Teacher Recommendations.
Manage all components of the teacher recommendation process
Responsible for establishing and maintaining mutually beneficial relationships with colleagues in order to best assist them in writing their recommendations if requested.
Required to be present at all standardized test administrations offered at the Forman School. Serve as the Assistant Standardized Testing Coordinator - support the Test Coordinator as needed before, during, and after test days.
Meet with college representatives who visit campus to gain greater insight into what they are looking for in the writing process.
Maintain open communication with the Director on all aspects of the college writing process, through scheduled meetings and daily follow-ups.
Work effectively with “the Forman Student.” Develop positive rapport; become familiar with their learning profiles and disabilities, as needed, to support them appropriately.
Collaborate with parents/families if necessary and have open communication with them regarding the college process.
During the summer hours; be a regular presence in the office to ensure consistent and reliable communication between the students, parents, and the College Counseling Office.
About The Forman School
Support all administrative functions for the Assistant Head of School for Institutional Advancement, who supervises advancement, alumni relations, and external outreach for the School. This is a 12-month position.
