Department: Counseling & Psych Serv Salary/Grade: EXS/10 Job Summary: Full-time 12-month staff therapist (LCPC, LCSW, or Psychologist) position. Under the supervision of the Director of Clinical Services Evanston CAPS, the Staff Therapist conducts initial assessments, brief individual therapy, and crisis intervention for Northwestern students on the Evanston Campus. This therapist spends significant time providing group therapy and assisting the Group Coordinator in running CAPS group program. Additionally, provides consultation and outreach and educational programming to the Northwestern University community. The staff member also will serve as a supervisor in the CAPS training program, including co-facilitating group supervision of doctoral interns’ group psychotherapy experience with the Group Coordinator. Position requires some evening hours and occasional weekend duties. Specific Responsibilities: Clinical Services - Conducts initial assessments, daytime crisis service (in-person and tele-mental health) and assumes on-call responsibilities for after-hours emergency services. On rare occasion, crisis intervention services may be required on the Chicago campus.
- Assists group coordinator in developing and implementing group therapy and training of staff and trainees in this treatment modality.
- Provides culturally sensitive direct services including brief individual and group psychotherapy, case management, and initial assessments (in-person and tele-mental health).
- Maintains clinical records and necessary statistics of psychotherapeutic and other client contacts, in compliance with ethics, law, and best practices.
- Consults with psychiatrists in conjunction with prescribing and monitoring psychotropic medication for psychotherapy patients.
- Consults with other campus offices, parents, physicians, faculty, academic deans, residence life staff, off-campus providers, and students, when appropriate and with necessary authorization in order to provide quality care to students.
- Makes referrals to off-campus therapists, clinics, or hospitals, when appropriate.
Training - Supervises and/or participates in training experiences for doctoral psychology trainees, including individual supervision of group therapy and co-facilitating group supervision of group therapy with Group Coordinator.
- Provides consultation to trainee(s), as needed.
Outreach and Education Programming - Conducts outreach and other student learning programs on the Evanston campus, as requested, including orientations and QPR suicide prevention training. Occasionally in the Chicago campus too.
- Serves as liaison to other campus unit(s) or academic programs.
Other Duties - Participates in Student Affairs and other University committees as assigned by the Director of Clinical Services, Evanston CAPS and/or the Executive Director of CAPS
- Attends and participates in regular CAPS staff meetings, case conferences, in-service/professional development training, and CAPS committees and work groups.

Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: - Holds a completed Master’s degree in counseling or social work, or a doctoral level degree (Ph.D., Psy.D., or Ed.D.) in clinical or counseling psychology from an APA accredited program.
- For doctoral candidates, must have completed a doctoral internship at an APA-accredited site.
- Independently licensed or license-eligible (currently licensed in another state, post-doctoral hours completed prior to start date, and/or successfully passed the required examination and supervision for licensure as a LCPC or LCSW) in the State of Illinois
- Has experience in training and supervision. For doctoral candidates, experience with supervision of doctoral level psychology graduate students in an APA-accredited site.
- Has experience providing group psychotherapy, including Interpersonal Process groups to undergraduate and/or graduate/professional students.
Minimum Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities.) - Demonstrates outstanding clinical skills and a well-integrated understanding of short-term therapy, group therapy, crisis intervention, community consultation, and outreach programming.
- Has experience with and commitment to working with diverse clients, including individuals from diverse ethnic and racial backgrounds, sexual orientations and gender, ability status, socioeconomic status, and national origin.
- Demonstrates computer skills and comfort with information technology in general.
Preferred Qualifications: - Currently licensed in the State of Illinois as a Clinical Psychologist, Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, or Licensed Clinical Social Worker.
- Past experience (1-3 years) working in a comprehensive university counseling center providing crisis intervention, brief individual psychotherapy, group therapy, outreach, consultation, and supervision of doctoral interns at an APA-accredited site.
- Experience partnering effectively and collegially on an inter-disciplinary team in a university counseling center or other mental health agency.
Preferred Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities) - Knowledge/expertise in one or more of the following areas: working with LGBTQIA, international, low income, first generation, undocumented, DACA students, or students with mixed status family; substance abuse and eating disorder assessment and treatment; evidence-based treatment for anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and perfectionism.
- Demonstrates an understanding of the dynamics of privilege and oppression, and the impact these have on equity, access, and opportunity in higher education/the workplace.
- Demonstrates commitment to co-create an inclusive community and actively participate in related professional development, including openness to feedback and ongoing self-examination.
- Familiarity with multicultural theory and competence.
- Knowledge and experience with positive psychology and wellness theory.
- Has thorough knowledge of clinical applications for contemporary issues in psychology and student affairs, especially as related to individual and cultural diversity.
- Has experience/expertise in evidence-based treatment modalities, especially dialectical behavioral therapy and trauma informed care.
- Strong creativity and problem-solving skills.
