Under supervision of the RN, the Mental Health Worker assists in direct patient care. This includes: activities of daily living, feeding, bathing, ambulating, and taking vital signs; performing patient rounding, unit video surveillance and unit door access per department policy to ensure patient safety; answering phones and directing calls appropriately; assisting with check-in visitors. Participates in milieu groups and demonstrates knowledge of therapeutic and crisis intervention skills. Ability to work with potentially aggressive patients. Epic flow sheet charting electronically. Performs other related tasks as assigned.
BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date.
Two years of related experience to include one year related experience in a direct inpatient acute care setting or psychiatric/rehab nursing facility.
Medical terminology training and/or certificate.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with patients, staff, and other disciplines in a constructive, professional manner.
Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse adult population.
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).
CPI or equivalent certification.
Previous experience working in an inpatient psychiatric setting.
Experience with Epic and related UCSD systems.
Familiar with UCSD policies and procedures.
Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
Must be willing to work on Neuropsychiatry and Behavioral Medicine Unit (NBMU) and Senior Behavioral Health (SBH) at Hillcrest location.
