The Center on Gender Equity and Health (GEH), part of the Division of Global Public Health and Infectious Disease within the Department of Medicine at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), aims to improve population health and development by improving the status, opportunities, and safety of women and girls globally. GEH focuses on conducting innovative global public health research, medical and academic training, and development and evaluation of evidence-based policies and practices to reduce gender inequities and gender-based violence and their negative impact on health and wellbeing. This position provides project management support for GEH and its principal investigators (PIs).
Under the supervision of the PI and Co-investigators, the Research Project Manager will help manage the implementation of two research projects focused on sexual violence prevention, social norms and networks, and other gender inequities as they relate to gender-based violence in California. Both projects are being conducted in partnership with the California Department of Public Health, CALCASA, local rape crisis centers, and other local organizations across the state. The primary focus of both projects is to conduct rigorous evaluation of sexual violence prevention programs implemented by local rape crisis centers using a variety of data sources. The projects will involve collection and analysis of program participant data and social network data, as well as utilization of existing social media data and other public data sources.
This position will maintain ongoing collaboration and direct communication with PIs, co-investigators, state and local partners, and funders to ensure successful collaborations with partners, adherence to research protocols, and high quality of data. Incumbent will contribute to all parts of research implementation, including evaluation planning, study protocols and data-collection tool development, qualitative and quantitative data collection, data management and analyses, and scientific report and manuscript writing. The incumbent will be responsible for monitoring project deliverables and study implementation, as well as overseeing study staff. It is expected that the incumbent will author and co-author manuscripts, as well as develop and present presentations at scientific conferences with partners. The incumbent will be expected to work independently, manage conflicting priorities, and be available for travel throughout the state for data collection. They will use public health research skills as a seasoned, experienced research professional with a full understanding of industry practices and organization policies and procedures; resolves a wide range of issues. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
Bachelor's Degree in related area; and/or equivalent experience/training.
A minimum of three (3+) years or more of senior-level research experience.
Experience in public health field research and thorough knowledge of data collection activities, research studies, data collection procedures and protocols.
Advanced knowledge of Public Health research or related field; or equivalent combination of experience and education. Ability to make advanced contributions to research projects at a conceptual level.
Proven experience in conducting moderate to complex quantitative and qualitative data analyses. Experience in public health field research and thorough knowledge of data collection activities, research studies, data collection procedures and protocols.
Thorough knowledge and skills relating to the development of survey instrumentation.
Knowledge associated with monitoring staffing levels, recruitment and training procedures. Proven experience in managing research projects and teams, and in making original contributions.
Demonstrated experience monitoring study budgets and deliverables. Thorough knowledge of budget planning process.
Proven experience or similar skills in design and implementation of data collection, design and pretesting of data collection tools, and coordination of complex study methodologies.
Experience or similar skills with grant writing and development. Strong experience with grant coordination, management, and submission to federal, state or private funding organizations.
