PGY1 Pharmacy Residency, Ambulatory Care Focus

This PGY1 Pharmacy Residency program offers extended exposure to Ambulatory Care experiences at LRH Family Health Center (FHC). FHC provides medical care for uninsured or underinsured patients, increasing access to preventative and essential healthcare services. The FHC team includes physicians, nurse practitioners, clinical pharmacy specialist, mental health counselor, social worker, medical assistants, and financial counselors. More than 3,000 patients are seen each week at FHC. The resident will participate in pharmacist-managed clinics that offers management of oral anticoagulation, uncontrolled hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, heart failure or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The PGY1 Pharmacy Residency program is a 12-month, ASHP-accredited program that provides experiences in both inpatient and outpatient settings. This residency program is an organized, directed, postgraduate training program focused on the development of the skills and competencies necessary to provide optimal pharmaceutical care. Required learning experiences include: extended exposure in Ambulatory Care, Emergency Medicine, Infectious Diseases, Internal Medicine, Practice Management, Pain Management, and Transitions of Care. Elective rotations include: Critical Care, Informatics, Hematology / Oncology, Psychiatry or an intensification of any required learning experience allowing the resident to tailor the program to their post-graduate interests. Longitudinal requirements for successful completion include: Code Response (BLS and ACLS certification), Hospital Pharmacy Practice (staffing; every 4th weekend, one major and one minor holiday), Medication Use Evaluation (poster presentation at ASHP Midyear), Presentations (case conferences, journal clubs, pharmacist CE, technician CE), Professional Development, and a Research Project (presentation at Florida Residency Conference, manuscript submission)
