The Division of Continuing Education (DCE) comprises several entities serving about 30,000 students annually: The Harvard Extension School (HES), the Harvard Summer School (HSS), the Harvard Professional Development Programs (PDP) and the Harvard Institute for Learning in Retirement (HILR). For more than a century, HES has made Harvard faculty and teaching accessible to a diverse community of local, national, and international students. Harvard Extension School enrolls approximately 16,000 students per year in over 40 graduate and undergraduate liberal arts and professional fields. More than 1,500 open enrollment courses are offered year-round with over 600 available online offered at affordable prices to communities across the world. Harvard Summer School offers approximately 450 courses on the Harvard Campus to 10,000 secondary school, college and adult learners and more than 30 international study abroad programs for up to 600 students each summer. The Division of Continuing Education also includes the Harvard Institute for Learning in Retirement with approximately 550 active members as well as Harvard Professional Development Programs that offer 80 short noncredit courses to almost 4,000 learners annually.

PhD strongly preferred as well as experience advising graduate students on independent research.
Candidate should be conversant with current topics and research methods in social sciences fields and have a genuine enthusiasm for exploring a variety of possible thesis topics with students.
Ability to work with students from a broad range of academic backgrounds and ages with tact and diplomacy, while maintaining the high academic standards of the program.
Excellent interpersonal skills, organizational ability and attention to detail
Ability to work collegially with other ALM staff.
Familiarity with Harvard preferred.
