Job Type: Staff Job Description: The Assistant Vice Provost for Student Services serves as the primary student development/affairs leader for the KCU Joplin campus, and reports to the Vice Provost of Student and Enrollment Services. The Joplin campus Assistant Vice Provost collaborates closely with the Kansas City campus Assistant Vice Provost to provides a wide-range of student development and support services, providing leadership for a quality student life program, oversight for the Joplin Office of Student Affairs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Campus Culture and Environment - Leads efforts to enhance and sustain a campus environment that supports student success, stimulates developmental and professional growth, emphasizes leadership, and engages students in a wide variety of student services that extend to all aspects of student life at KCU.
Administrative Responsibilities- Directs all administrative duties within the Joplin Student Affairs Office, with direct responsibility for students and administrative responsibilities within the College of Medicine and the College of Dental Medicine
Oversees/manages direct reports and assigned departments through defining/outlining roles and responsibilities, providing guidance and clarity, coordinating cohesive productivity, reviewing/conducting performance evaluations, maintaining current and accurate policies, practices, and protocols ensuring adherence [committees, service options, etc.], assisting with conflict resolution, crisis management, and other personnel issues.
Conducts regular team meetings to proactively enhance and improve departmental efficiencies, and build teamwork and team goals that lead to departmental success.
Oversees /manages departmental budgets.
Directs the day-to-day management of department, including the direction and management of personnel, conducting meetings, ensuring adherence to university policies, practices, and protocols, assisting with problems, assigning tasks/ projects, instructing on duties, accuracy, time lines, and expectations, changing duties as demands dictate, and delegating and/or re-distributing tasks/projects.
Cultivates Student Relationships- Manages student relationships, ensuring developmental support and academic achievement
Serves as an effective leader/mentor for students, while maintaining close communication with student leaders and organizational officers.
Helps ensure students reach optimal performance through the monitoring of their academic performance, identifying at-risk students, recommending action plans and interventions, and referring students to available resources.
Presents policies and protocols to students through seminars, educational and professional development sessions and insure that students understand the professional expectations of the University.
Cultivates a culture of student support, interaction, and commitment among Student Affairs staff.
Administrative Leadership- The Assistant Vice Provost (AVP) will have supervisory authority over the following administrative area within the University: Joplin Student Services Department.
Student Orientation- Works closely with the KC Assistant Vice Provost to design and implement the orientation agendas for the various campuses and colleges within the University. Directs the KCU WE CARE Day on the Joplin campus during orientation.
Student Affairs- All student affairs related personnel and responsibilities will report through this position, including but not limited to, student activities, student organizational support, student interventions, student disciplinary processes and procedures, and personal crisis interventions.
Advising Student Leadership- The AVP will be the primary advisor for the Joplin campus Student Government Association.
Wellness- Provides leadership in cultivating and implementing wellness in all aspects of KCU's culture, including providing the administrative guidance for the Student Wellness Council.
Represent department and the University favorably and in accordance with established Core Values and expectations
Perform other duties as assigned or directed to meet the goals and objectives of the organization
Masters Degree and 5-10 years of experience in student life work required.
Interpersonal skills and verbal communication skills required to counsel students, faculty, parents, and staff and resolve conflicts.
Knowledge of legal issues in higher education and a demonstrated commitment to advocating for all student issues; diversity and multiculturalism are essential.
Analytical abilities required to assess situations and determine the best method of dealing with such issues based on college policies.
Normal office environment. On-call for student and/or campus emergencies.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Either directly or indirectly supervises all personnel within the Office of Student Affairs.
