The Assistant Director serves as a key operations and strategy administrator for the Dean of Students/Division of Student Affairs; functioning as the primary communications and social media strategist for the division; coordinating marketing and production efforts for University signature programs and initiatives. In addition, is responsible for providing operational support for student-facing office and programming, and interacting frequently with students, parents, and colleagues across Boston University. The Assistant Director will support the myriad of initiatives that originate within the Dean of Students Office including, but not limited to: all-university programming, notary public services, divisional assessment, strategic communications, and other duties as assigned.
The Assistant Director will play an essential role in helping to develop a unified Student Affairs narrative and messaging that promotes a culture of belonging, identity development, intellectual growth, civility, and personal responsibility.
Reporting to the Chief of Staff & Director of Operations, the Assistant Director will have a broad range of responsibilities that, when combined, represent the creative and communications content for the Dean of Students/Division of Student Affairs. The Assistant Director must thrive in maker space, and function as not only an engineer but as an architect both envisioning a communications strategy and building the infrastructure to effectively operationalize it.
This professional must synthesize and subsequently integrate University-wide content; oversee the strategy and design for and production of printed materials; generate creative content (i.e.: stories, profile projects, narratives about institutional events and priorities); maintain and update the Dean of Students website; oversee the production of additional, unit-level websites when appropriate; produce a monthly newsletter; produce an annual report; and oversee the social media for Dean of Students/Division of Student Affairs. This individual will also generate internal communications; and serve as a liaison support and help train communications specialists across the Dean of Students/Division of Student Affairs reporting departments in order to help ensure messaging across is consistent.
Excellent communication and social media skills are a must. Bachelor's degree and 3 to 5 years of work experience required. Master's degree preferred.
