Under the supervision of the Director of Financial Aid, the Financial Aid Counselor holds a wide variety of responsibilities in meeting the goals of the Financial Aid Office which are to effectively and comprehensively assist parents and students through the financial aid process and to effectively manage federal, state and institutional aid programs.
Essential Position Duties and Responsibilities:
Is a teammate under the authority of the Assistant Director working within the team structure to support the overall functions of the Financial Aid Office.
Performs responsibilities characterized by caring, personal attention to individual student/parent issues, and work output that is professional, thorough and accurately abides within federal, state and, institutional regulations and policies.
Counsels current and prospective undergraduate/graduate students and their parents through the application process in regards to financial aid programs, personal financial planning, and money management. Responsible for a section of undergraduate and graduate students based on the alphabet.
Reviews financial aid applications and determines financial aid awards.
Coordinates the Net Price Calculator process. Communicates estimates to coaches and double-checks estimates.
Downloads and processes FAFSA data.
Assists with communication management annual setup and the weekly dissemination of written communication to students regarding their financial aid status and/or documents needed in order to finalize their financial aid application.
Coordinates the processing and sending of financial aid award letters.
Assists with the monitoring of the Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy.
Conducts financial aid presentations for admission and high school functions.
Attends meetings/conferences to stay abreast of federal and state program changes and for professional development.
Completes other tasks as requested by Executive Director of Financial Aid or the Assistant Director of Financial Aid.
Bachelor's degree required.
Work independently with a clear understanding of priorities, deadlines and overall goals of the office.
A thorough understanding of federal, state and institutional regulations and procedures.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with students, parents, administrators and government agencies.
Able to think analytically and solve problems; must be detail-oriented and accurate in work.
High character/integrity traits with the ability to keep appropriate material confidential.
Able to help administer programs, work well in a sometimes stressful environment and in general be a loyal team player within the framework of the Financial Aid Office at Ashland University.
