Monitors academic progress of assigned student-athletes through graduation. Serves as the University Division (exploratory college) advisor. Collaborates with academic unit advisors and plans a degree-oriented academic program. Provides advising, counseling and consultation on course selection. Identifies and resolves academic problems. Communicates with coaches and professors and determines necessary academic intervention methods. Performs all duties listed above with a particular level of attention given to students considered at-risk in their academic endeavors and, if necessary, consults with the learning specialist to support student needs. Meets with prospective student-athletes.
Master's degree and two years of experience working in student development, college athletics and/or academic support services.
Combinations of education and related experience may be considered.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including ability to work effectively with diverse populations of faculty, coaches, staff, and students. Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills, including ability to work independently and as a member of a team. Ability to organize large projects and follow through to ensure projects are completed well and on time. Be a person of integrity with high educational standards and possess a solid commitment to academic integrity, the welfare of student-athletes, and full compliance with NCAA, Big Ten and institutional rules and regulations.
