HCA Houston Healthcare Kingwood is excited to offer a 12-month PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program. During this time, residents are involved in high-quality patient-centered care, medication use policy, leadership and practice management, project management, education of healthcare providers and trainees, and medical emergencies. The purpose of the PGY1-Pharmacy Residency is to build on Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for the medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, who are eligible for board certification as well as postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training. A solid and excellent clinical and pharmacy operation foundation is developed through robust clinical experiences in areas such as internal medicine, critical care, emergency medicine, infectious disease, antimicrobial stewardship, teaching and clinical research. In addition, dynamic leadership and medication safety rotations are offered as well.
PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program Overview
The program is set to tentatively start on June 28, 2021 and end on June 24, 2022. It may be modified to accommodate interests in pursuing a PGY2 or fellowship.
Number of positions: Two
Duration of rotations: 5-week blocks with the exception of an elective 2-week mini-rotation

Weekend distributive functions provide necessary training for the resident and are a requirement of the ASHP residency accreditation standard. During the residency year, residents work in various areas in the department including IV admixture, operations, and centralized and decentralized clinical coverage. The commitment is every other weekend with select weekdays off.
The annual service commitment includes two holidays.
Various longitudinal projects such as a discharge counseling, quality improvement projects, outcomes-based research project, and medication use evaluations.
