Full-time 12-month Director of Clinical Services Evanston (LCPC, LCSW, Ph.D., Psy.D., or Ed.D.) position.
Under the supervision of the Executive Director of CAPS, the Director of Clinical Services oversees efficient and high-quality delivery of mental health services on the Evanston campus. Provides administrative oversight to the day-to-day clinical operations, serves as a primary mental health consultant and support to the Evanston campus and community. Evaluates and provides psychological treatment (including Telemental Health), crisis intervention, consultation, referral, and programming to the Northwestern community. Provides administrative supervision for some staff and graduates students in psychology, oversees case management and group therapy service systems, and serves on CAPS committees and inter-departmental groups. The Director of Clinical Services Evanston assists in planning, facilitation, and coordination of resources to assure availability and accessibility of services, identifies key issues and service needs, assists in the development and monitoring of record-keeping standards, leads the development of ongoing review and compliance procedures, provides leadership for ongoing updates of policies and procedures, facilitates communication with staff about professional and service-delivery issues, and, along with the Director of Clinical Services Chicago, serves as Acting Executive Director, as assigned, in the absence of the Executive Director.
In collaboration with the Director of Clinical Services Chicago:
Manages electronic clinical record program (Titanium).
Assumes Executive Director Responsibilities, when requested.
Oversees compliance with ethical standards, rules, and regulations by assuring that all clinical services, including Telemental Health, comply with APA Ethical Standards, state practice laws and standards of practice, and applicable federal and state privacy laws.
Leads Quality Assurance Activities by assisting with the development of evaluation procedures of clinical services.
Recommends changes to work practices and policies to achieve desired outcomes.
Convenes and co-facilitates the Clinical Services Team regularly and consistently to effectively manage, evaluate, and improve the clinical services system.
Co-facilitates staff discussion and training on organizational clinical needs and service provision.
Develops policies and procedures for implementation of clinical services that are responsive to interests of Staff and to the needs of clients and trainees. Upholds policies and procedures with staff to support consistent delivery of clinical services.
Ensures time, resources, energy, learning opportunities, and actions are focused on priorities important to the changing workplace.
Responds in a timely fashion to all request for data for reporting internally and externally. Develops communication plan regarding services and programs, which includes providing the Executive Director with a comprehensive review of annual clinical service activities.
Develops and maintains data and files systems by assisting with coordination of participation in national evaluation and data base development efforts (e.g., Center for Collegiate Mental Health; Annual Report, etc.).
Provides training and compliance oversight regarding policies and procedures to front desk staff.
Serves as a member of the CAPS Leadership Team and in collaboration with the team, articulates Strategic Plan for the Evanston clinical services including the integration of anti-racist policies and procedures into the overall clinical system.
Oversees scheduling of crisis coverage.
Serves as liaison to Protocall; CAPS after hours resource
Provides direct administrative supervision to assigned staff therapists (including social workers, licensed professional counselors, and psychologists).
Engages in annual performance evaluation with assigned administrative supervisees.
Identifies and resolves disagreements/conflicts in early stages.
Promotes a safe, fair, respectful environment in which concerns can be addressed effectively.
Strives to identify unit policies and practices that have a disparate impact on specific populations.
Recommends policies and practices to advance an equitable, inclusive work environment and counter racism, sexism, and other forms of institutional bias.
Forms respectful relationships with those representing diverse constituencies, and seeks regular input to better understand diversity, equity & inclusion issues and enhance recruitment efforts.
Engages in on-going self-reflection and continues to advance their knowledge and skills related to diversity, equity and inclusion.
Provides culturally sensitive direct services including brief individual and group psychotherapy, case management, and initial assessments (in-person and Telemental health).
Assumes after hours on-call responsibilities.
Maintains timely clinical records and necessary statistics of therapeutic and other client contacts.
Consults with psychiatrists in conjunction with prescribing and monitoring psychotropic medication for psychotherapy clients.
Consults with parents, physicians, faculty, academic deans, residence life staff, off-campus counseling services, other campus offices and students when appropriate and with appropriate authorization to provide quality care to students.
Makes referrals to off-campus clinical services when appropriate.
Supervises and/or participates in training experiences for doctoral psychology trainees, includes review of videos and progress notes.
Provides consultation to trainee(s), as needed.
Provides crisis management consultation to trainee(s), as needed.
Participates in the management and administration of training and supervision, which may include serving on the Training Committee, selection of doctoral interns and Postdoctoral Fellows, and providing input in the assignment of supervisors.
Outreach and Education Programming
Conducts outreach as requested including staff/faculty trainings, orientation sessions for new students and parents, workshop presentations and emergency support services to the campus and community.
Serves as liaison to other campus unit(s) or academic programs.
Participates in Student Affairs and other University committees as assigned by the Executive Director of CAPS, including Behavioral Consultation Team, Care and Consultation, Northwestern university Police Department.
Provides consultation and assistance to units, academic departments, and individuals regarding clinical service systems, emergency services, and preventive services.
Attends and participates in regular CAPS staff meetings, case conferences, and in-service/professional development training (occasionally on the Chicago Campus).
Participates in local and national organizations relevant to job title and duties.
Engages in continuing education necessary to maintain state and national credentials and licenses as required by job description and duties.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Holds a completed Master’s degree in counseling, social work, or related field or a doctoral level degree (Ph.D., Psy.D., or Ed.D.) in clinical or counseling psychology.
For doctoral candidates, must have completed a pre-doctoral internship at an APA accredited site.
Licensed Clinical Psychologist, LCPC or LCSW or license-eligible: a) currently licensed in another State; b) or post-doctoral hours have been completed to sit for licensure exam; c) and/or successfully passed the required examination.
Has a minimum of 5 years (post-licensure) of experience as a licensed mental health provider.
Demonstrates administrative experience in a complex, cohesive, and interdisciplinary team.
Demonstrates outstanding clinical skills and a well-integrated understanding of short-term therapy, crisis intervention, consultation, and outreach/developmental programming.
Demonstrates experience in training and supervision. For doctoral candidates, experience with supervision
Minimum Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities.)
Direct experience with creating policies and procedures relevant to the successful operation and leadership of a counseling and psychological services program.
A doctoral level degree (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) in clinical or counseling psychology.
Demonstrates at least three years of experience in an administrative role in a university counseling center.
Demonstrates at least three years of direct supervision of licensed mental health professional
Have thorough knowledge of clinical applications for contemporary issues in psychology and student affairs, especially as related to individual and cultural diversity.
Strong consideration will be given to candidates who have experience/expertise in empirically validated treatment modalities, especially dialectical behavioral therapy and trauma informed care.
Strong creativity and problem-solving skills.
Highly organized and detailed oriented.
Demonstrates expertise in mental health and developmental issues of college students at a highly competitive university.
Demonstrates commitment to continued personal and professional development.
Experience providing and managing Telemental Health services.
