Sanford Health Imagenetics PGY-2 in Clinical Pharmacogenomics
Sanford Health is the largest, rural, not-for-profit health care system in the nation. Sanford Imagenetics began in 2014 and is a comprehensive precision health program that fully integrates genetics with internal medicine and other areas of care. Sanford Imagenetics has an internal lab and has processed >10,000 samples and counting. This residency prepares pharmacists to practice and implement pharmacogenomics at many levels in a variety of settings and specialties. Our program builds upon skills and knowledge obtained through PharmD curriculum and PGY-1 residency experiences. Our program incorporates patient care, education, and research which builds upon the three pillars of Sanford Imagenetics. PGY-2 residents will have an opportunity to precept IPPE, APPE, and PGY-1 learners in addition to the opportunity to complete a teaching certificate, if not already obtained during PGY-1 residency. The PGY-2 resident will work in an interdisciplinary setting that includes Clinical Pharmacists, Genetic Counselors, Clinical Geneticists, Laboratory Directors, Laboratory Technologists, Information Technology, Bioinformatics, Research, Administration and other staff. In addition to a year-long research project, the resident will have opportunities to participate in smaller research projects and quality improvement processes. Clinical decision support, alerts, and genomic indicators are important aspects of our program and the resident will gain experience working on these parts of our program. The resident will have an opportunity to join committees and attend meetings. Residents will be responsible for pharmacogenetic chart review and education of patients. Other experiences are also available and can be tailored to the residents interests.
