UP RVA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization located in Richmond, Virginia. The mission of the organization is to serve low-income high school students who attend local Independent Schools in the Richmond metropolitan area. We currently support 32 students enrolled in seven different Independent Schools and 11 students enrolled in ten colleges across the country. Annual revenues are approximately $1,000,000.
UP RVA provides four key services to our students:
After School Program
Founded in 2015, UP RVA has grown exponentially. To better support the needs of our students in high school and through college, a new position has been created: Director of Youth Development and Education. This person will guide and nurture our students as the trajectories of their lives change through access to quality education, academic success and college matriculation.
Develop a four-year high school road map for each student including personal performance benchmarks. Monitor academic and extracurricular growth.
Evaluate and enhance the After School Program curriculum and structure.
Enhance summer Boot Camp for incoming freshmen.
Develop relationships with Independent Schools and build rapport with administrators and teachers.
Develop relationships with parents and encourage active involvement.
Work in partnership with Independent School college counselors.
Manage individual college testing plans and identify tutoring needs.
Identify college scholarship opportunities and support the application processes.
Educate college admission representatives on the UP RVA story.
Organize and guide appropriate college visit plans for each student.
Continue to support UP RVA college students on a regular basis.
Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree.
Minimum of 3 to 5 years of college guidance and/or teaching experience.
Thorough understanding of the application and financial aid process at public and private colleges.
Excellent organization and communication skills.
Strong ability to listen and connect with students.
Facility with technology.
Self-motivated and independent.
Passion for working with teenagers and changing young lives.
