The Harley School, a Nursery through Grade 12 independent school in Rochester, New York, with approximately 500 students, seeks a full-time School Counselor to support students in Grades 9-12.
The Counselor will work with students, faculty, staff, and parents to promote the social, academic, and emotional success of students. The ideal candidate will help to create a safe, healthy, and supportive learning environment that strengthens connections between home, school, and community.
Provide responsive services—such as individual and small-group counseling—to meet students’ immediate needs and concerns
Assist in schoolwide counseling program development with a preventative approach
Lead wellness programming that helps students develop healthy coping and decision-making skills
Identify students in crisis or those at-risk to guide emergent problem-solving by faculty, staff and parents
Serve as a resource and consultant for faculty, staff, and families on mental health, adolescent psychology, social-emotional growth, and learning differences
Conduct in-service and parent programs as requested
Provide referrals to outside services and collaborate with school staff, parents, and outside professionals/agencies in planning to meet the needs of individual students
This is a full-time faculty appointment. In addition to counseling, the individual who fills this position will be expected to engage in activities intended to foster connection to the Harley community. This may include club sponsorship, class advising, coaching, chaperoning, committee work, or teaching. Work days will run concurrent with the academic calendar.
Master’s degree in counseling, psychology, or social work; must possess or have the ability to obtain New York State Certification
Experience with and preference for working with adolescents in a school setting
Commitment to fostering an inclusive, equitable, and diverse learning community
Knowledge of differentiated instruction based on student learning needs
Willingness to collaborate across the disciplines with teachers, school psychologist, resource room teacher, and administrators
Excellent oral and written communication skills
