The Department of Academic Advisement & Student Development at Millersville University of Pennsylvania welcomes applications for a full-time tenure track 9-month position in the Department of Academic Advisement & Student Development (AASD) for the Academic Year 2021-22. Reporting to the Chair of AASD, the successful candidate must have an Earned doctorate or ABD, with proof of doctorate required by August 13, 2021. Doctorate in Counseling, Higher Education, or related field. This person will provide academic advising support to cohorts serviced within the department, specifically within the College of Science and Technology, and be available to engage in institutional retention initiatives as directed.
Reporting to Dean of Student Success and Associate Provost of Academic Support Services, the successful candidate will serve as an academic advising resource to students, faculty, advisors and other institutional stakeholders campus-wide and specifically within the College of Science and Technology. In partnership with their academic major advisors, the Department of AASD encourages students to assess their interests and abilities, to examine their education goals and develop short and long-term plans to meet those objectives.
Candidates must be willing to teach day, evening and/or weekend classes and conduct classes on and off the Millersville campus through multifaceted teaching strategies for person-to-person classroom delivery and/or web-enhanced or web-based formats. Actual assignments will depend upon department needs.

Oversight of and support of initiatives that contribute to the strategic planning for the department.
Work collaboratively with Success Coach to provide proactive interventions that support retention and persistence.
Planning, implementation and oversight of academic advising activities to proactively mitigate student risk .
Serve as resource for departmental retention initiatives (e.g. Early Alert System and Retention Seminars)
Collaborate with and provide support to departments on aspects of academic advising including development, implementation, and modification of all programs and services for students and faculty advisors.
Collaborate on assessment activities on behalf of Millersville University's academic advising community and specifically within the College of Science and Technology.
Work collaboratively to develop partnerships to coordinate resources, activities, and services across the campus that enhance and simplify the students advising experience.
Empower students to achieve desired goals/career objectives through the services provided by the office.
Participate in orientation and service events; which may include evenings and weekends.
Represent AASD on University committees and initiatives, participating in department, college, and university meetings and workshops, and performing other duties as assigned.
Faculty are expected, per the Collective Bargaining Agreement Article 4, to engage in professional responsibilities such as curriculum development and update; learning outcomes assessment for courses and programs; and participating in department, college, and university meetings and workshops.
Provide service on an ongoing basis by contributing professionally to department and university governance outside the classroom for the university, professional community, and community at large, in a participatory, developmental, or advisory capacity.
The Department of Academic Advising & Student Development, reporting to the Dean of Student Success, is comprised of 4 faculty members, support staff, and graduate assistants and undergraduate student workers, and offers programs and services in support of students' continued academic success and persistence through to graduation.
Earned doctorate or ABD, with proof of doctorate required by August 13, 2021. Doctorate in Counseling, Higher Education, or related field.
1-year of professional full-time experience in undergraduate academic advising or career preparation/counseling.
Experience implementing best practices and current trends in academic advising.
Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Strong presentation skills that will include a campus-wide presentation. (Topic TBD)
Successful interview, reference checks and background checks.
3-years of full-time professional experience in undergraduate academic advising or career preparation/counseling.
Degree in STEM or STEM related discipline.
Experience in transfer student support programming and initiatives and undeclared student programming and initiatives.
Demonstrate an understanding of student advisement, student transition, and student retention and student development theory.
Experience with intentional intervention and academic recovery programs in higher education.
Knowledge about the complexities of high-risk student populations as it relates to the smooth transition between or among institutions and academic/graduation requirements.
Experience facilitating a freshman seminar course and/or student success seminars.
Effective interpersonal and cross-cultural competency skills.
Engagement in relevant professional organizations.
Proficiency in using Office 365, student records systems, early alert monitoring systems, social media and web communications, and database systems.
