Tandem Friends School, a co-ed, Quaker, 5th-12th grade independent day school in Charlottesville, Virginia, seeks an experienced, full-time Upper School Art teacher for a short-term leave replacement to begin in October and continue through December 2020 - and possibly into 2021 as needed.
Tandem Friends seeks teachers who bring diverse skills and knowledge, a willingness to learn new things, and an appreciation for collaboration with students. At TFS, all teachers are active community members who share in the general support and care of the school community, serve as student advisors, and participate in other community activities. Responsibilities for this position also include collaboration and participation in the school-wide arts department and facilitation of art-related co-curricular activities. Candidates should have a comfort with and/or willingness to learn classroom technology that supports a variety of models of hybrid teaching (in-person, hybrid, and remote).

Tandem Friends School seek candidates with a demonstrated commitment to the intrinsic value of Art Education and its related critical thinking skills. This position requires strong skills in and ability to teach a variety of media including 2D (Drawing, Painting, Printmaking, Design), 3D (Sculpture, Ceramics, Woodworking), and Digital Media platforms. Facility with online teaching tools and methodologies is essential for success in this position. A background in teaching art to high school age students is preferred; experience as a full-time school art teacher is highly desired. Qualified candidates hold a Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in visual arts or a related field. A Master's degree is preferred.
