Serve as Campus Safety Supervisor by working directly under the Director of Campus Safety & Facilities Services and collaborating with local police, fire and other safety department members to create a safe and secure environment for students, staff, faculty and visitors. Lead a department of campus safety officers to provide comprehensive safety coverage for an active boarding and day school community.
Performs the duties required of a Miss Porter’s Safety Officer while on shift.
Oversees and directs all campus safety officers in the execution of their duties.
Performs fire drills, lock-down, secure school drills during the school year. This includes the training of safety department members to perform these drills on the weekends as needed.
Monitors fire and burglar alarms and responds to activated alarms.
Schedules shift coverage for the department including special events such as dances etc.
Replaces/creates new keycards for students and faculty on shift and provides training for Campus Safety staff.
Coordinates departmental training skills that are required of the Campus Safety department. This includes contracting with outside agencies for such training that cannot be provided in-house. At this time the campus safety supervisor is the training coordinator for pepper spray, PPE and report writing.
Provides input to the Director of Campus Safety & Facilities Services as needed on policy and procedural changes.
Acts as the weekend on call supervisor as required by the Director of Campus Safety & Facilities Services.
Acts in the place of the Director of Campus Safety & Facility Services in their absence for safety related matters.
Attends and conducts safety discussions at morning meetings (strong public speaker).
Attends and co-chairs the Safety Committee.
Assists Director of Campus Safety & Facilities Services with other campus employee mandated training, new faculty/new employee orientation and summer camp counselor training.
Assists with fire Marshal inspections and adherence to fire code within campus buildings and housing.
Works closely with the Office of Community Life on issues that directly or indirectly affect students.
Maintains a high level of confidentiality in regards to all school matters.
Serves as a positive role model for students and employees.
Assists in the development and implementation of emergency plans.
Approves Campus Safety Officer reports.
Oversees key, uniform and equipment inventory and maintains property inventory logs.
Provides input to the Director of Campus Safety for capital improvements.
Oversees department operational budgets.
Performs annual staff performance reviews.
Conducts staff meetings via zoom or in person as required.
Develops weekend work instructions (WDI) for staff.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree or combination of education and work experience in safety field.
Ability to exercise independent judgment with attention to detail; excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to multitask and prioritize work, ability to meet multiple and often competing deadlines.
Ability to remain calm in stressful and emergent situations.
Current driver’s license with good driving record.
First Aid, CPR, AED certified (MRT/EMT certified is a plus)
Strong human relations skills with experience in team building, resolving conflict and the ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
Strong work ethic, capable of maintaining discretion and confidentiality.
Ability to walk, run, climb multiple staircases, bend, stoop, carry up to 40 pounds minimum.
