Rocky Mountain Cancer Centers (RMCC) is looking for a motivated and enthusiastic genetic counselor to join our creative and collaborative team of six Genetic Counselors.
At RMCC we believe genetic counselors are a vital part of the medical team and provide an important service to our patients. Our physicians have demonstrated a commitment to the genetic counseling team at RMCC by fostering the growth of our team, providing administrative support, and encouraging the publication of peer-reviewed literature and poster abstracts.
Provide genetic counseling to individuals with a personal and/or family history of cancer, including information pertaining to hereditary risk factors, genetic concepts and inheritance.
Collect medical and family history from patients from a variety of sources including personal interviews, telephone screenings, medical records review and conferring with clinicians.
Utilize computerized models analyzing inheritance patterns to calculate and report cancer risks for individuals and families. From models, identifies at risk individuals that may benefit from genetic screening, testing and/or counseling.
Coordinate genetic testing. Review information with physicians, nurses, social workers and other clinicians and participates in the development of treatment plans as appropriate.
Provide long term follow up of patients as necessary and assists in patient referral process.
Develop patient support and educational materials. May prepare and present information to community groups.
Liaison with patients participating in cancer genetics research studies. Recruit patients for participation in trials, obtains informed consent, collects participant medical history etc.
Support and adhere to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.
Masters degree in Medical Genetics/Counseling including clinical experience from an accredited genetics counseling training program.
Experienced genetic counselors and new graduates are encouraged to apply.
Board certified (or eligibility for certification) from the American Board of Genetics Counseling or American Board of Medical Genetics.
