The University of Rochester Medical Center is looking for an accomplished Medical Technologist to serve as the Technical & Scientific Manager for the Clinical Trials division. The Clinical Trials division is a full-service central laboratory providing diverse services across clinical and anatomic pathology to support clinical trials.
The Technical & Scientific Manager serves as a dedicated project manager, expertly guiding clients through all stages of their clinical trial. In addition to collaborating and advising clients in best practices for their studies, the Technical & Scientific Manager engages resources across UR Medicine to make trials run smoothly. The Technical & Scientific Manager also directs the operation of Specimen Logistics, Kit Building, and Medical Technologists sections. The ideal Technical & Scientific Manager will have demonstrated success in all areas of a clinical lab with a flexible, entrepreneurial startup mindset.
Primary responsibilities include:
Works with the Medical Director to grow and refine the operational structure required to successfully operate the clinical trials service. Analyzes staffing, finances, operations and procedures to ensure effectiveness and to proactively adapt to internal and external changes.
Primary contact for customers regarding scientific and technical information for clinical trials.
Serves as technical and scientific advisor for Laboratory Operations and Business Development during the proposal process.
Collaborates with leadership throughout Pathology and Laboratory Medicine to communicate opportunities and facilitate implementation of new testing modalities.
Supports personnel matters for Kit Building, Specimen Logistics, and Technologists, creating an atmosphere of teamwork and respect. Promotes and sets accountability for a just culture and an engaged workforce.
Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of relevant experience within a Clinical Lab supporting patient testing
At least 2 years at a managerial level
Licensed Medical Technologist
Understanding of laws and standards of accrediting agencies (e.g., FDA, CLIA, CAP, OSHA) for Clinical Trials Labs operational, business and financial activities.
