Reporting to the Associate Dean and Director of Field Education, the Associate Director is responsible for the management of Graduate Social Work student internships; and the management of or assistance with one or more fields and methods of
practice. The incumbent will consistently identify, assess and authorize new field placements for both first and second year students; recruit and screen new field instructors, and in the process of recruiting and authorizing these placements, incumbent
will provide onsite information and training to newly recruited field instructors and education coordinators; systematically and consistently monitor and assess field sites; assess and place students in internships; and co-chair one or more Field of Practice
Advisory Committees with faculty; and contributing to and/or managing the Field Education Placement Planning Book. The Associate Director will work with multiple constituents including CUSSW faculty, students, advisors, other CUSSW administrative
offices, and social work and non-social work professionals both at other schools of social work and working generally in the field. Incumbent will also be responsible for other significant program components in the Field Education Office. Additional assignments
include the management and coordination of Advanced SIFI courses; and the design, implementation, analysis and writing of the Field Education research initiatives and special projects.
1. Develop and Maintain Relationships with Field Sites - 25%
Identify and recruit appropriate agencies/organizations to serve as graduate placement opportunities for masters' students.
Cultivate and maintain relationships with the agencies/organizations' leadership.
Serve as liaison to facilitate arrangements/agreements between the organizations and CSSW.
2. Manage Field Internships - 50%
Manage the field placements process by matching each student with an appropriate field site.
Discuss field placement options with students, provide counsel and/or mediate to resolve difficulties when necessary, and promote student learning and encourage their professional development.
Provide information to field instructors and work with them to facilitate student learning and evaluation.
Partner with the Director of Advising and advisers to resolve student issues related to placements and to address related pedagogical matters. Collaborate with faculty members in the design, development, and implementation of field education initiatives and other projects.
3. Facilitate the Seminar in Field Instruction (SIFI) Training and Motivational Interviewing (MI) Skills Lab training - 10%
4. Provide External Supervision - 5%
Oversee and supervise students in their field placements.
Conduct site visits and telephone/video conference with students and agency representatives.
Conduct weekly recording reviews and provide feedback.
Address and resolve student issues.
5. Design, develop, and implement Field Department activities related to curricular development and implementation, student field practicum planning, field instructor support, adviser training, and/or professional conferences related to field education. - 10%
Participate in and contribute to department/staff/sub-committee meetings.
Undertakes other related developmental duties and tasks as needed, assigned, or appropriate for the Field Education Department.
Masters in Social Work required from an accredited graduate school of social work.
A minimum of five years post-Masters agency-based social work experience that includes supervising students.
Prior experience placing students in field assignments, monitoring field placements, and/or working in a graduate school of social work field education department required.
Prior experience with teaching or facilitating training strongly preferred.
Excellent written and oral communication skills, attention to detail, and demonstrated comfort in interacting with a broad constituency are mandatory.
Ability to meet time-sensitive deadlines while leading multiple, concurrent projects with minimal supervision required.
Ability to work with and be supportive of team effort is essential.
A strong sales and customer service orientation along with commitment to creative and innovative practice is required.
Capacity to prioritize projects and demands.
Demonstrated tact, discretion, diplomacy, and professionalism and a strong customer-service orientation and computer technology required.
