The Assistant Director of Undergraduate Admissions reports to the Associate Director for Undergraduate Admissions and serves as an integral part of a dynamic, goal-oriented team responsible for the annual recruitment of an appropriately sized, academically competitive and diverse freshman class.
The Assistant Director serves as a representative of Duquesne University at both on- and off-campus recruitment events, helps to design, implement and execute undergraduate recruitment strategies and manages long-term admission goals in an assigned area as directed by the Admissions leadership team.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides one-on-one counseling and delivers group presentations to prospective undergraduate students and their families. Attendance at certain on-campus weekend and evening recruiting events (may include open houses, information sessions, webinars, Admitted Student Days, etc.) is also required. Develops and maintains relationships with prospective students, parents, guidance counselors and other stake holders to ensure the highest level of service and support.
Evaluates undergraduate applicants’ academic credentials and participates in the admission decision-making process (including assigning appropriate scholarships) using Technolutions Slate, the University’s current CRM, outreach, online application, travel management and online reading tool.
Represents the University at off-campus recruitment events requiring the coordination and execution of an extensive travel schedule. Travel may occur both in- and out-of-state on weekdays and weekends at different times of year. Manages travel budget and allocates a $2,000 revolving limit on procurement card expenditures to the appropriate budget accounts in Chrome River (the University's current expense management software).
Serves as liaison to a school or program(s) within the University. Develops and executes enrollment strategies in collaboration with the Enrollment Management Group, Undergraduate Admissions and academic leadership. Makes recommendations, as appropriate, to improve recruitment strategies. Reports to senior leadership regarding the status of application review in assigned school/program(s).
Manages and oversees special assignment areas as designated by the Assistant Vice President for Undergraduate Admission.
Performs other related duties as assigned in support of a dynamic, goal-oriented team.
Bachelor’s degree in communication, marketing, business or related fields from an accredited institution.
Minimum 1-year experience in admissions or student services at the college/university level.
A valid driver’s license is required.
Demonstrated planning and organizational skills to accommodate multiple priorities.
Exceptional leadership, customer service, interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.
Effective public speaking and presentation skills.
Excellent analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to prioritize work.
Strong technology skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with Banner, Slate, social media and integrated database preferred.
Ability to think strategically and work in a diverse environment both independently and as part of a team.
Ability to lift prospective student marketing materials (~30 pounds) and travel independently.
Ability to maintain a high energy level with an enthusiastic, positive approach creating an excellent rapport with prospective students and their parents, team members and other departments within the University community.
Professional demeanor with the ability to deal with people in a courteous and tactful fashion regardless of circumstances.
Ability to work additional hours and weekends during peak recruitment periods.
Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with diverse populations, including students, faculty, scholars, and staff with sensitivity to the need of each individual to be treated with dignity and respect as it relates to diversity in general and the Mission of the University specifically.
