As an independent, fiduciary asset manager, BlackRock is committed to acting at all times in the best long-term interests of our clients. We undertake our investment stewardship activities to protect and enhance the economic value of the companies in which we invest on their behalf.
BIS is considered an investment function and is an important component of BlackRock's client value proposition. The team operates in seven offices across three regions - the Americas (New York and San Francisco); Europe, Middle East and Africa (London); and Asia-Pacific (Tokyo, Hong Kong, Singapore and Sydney) - and undertakes engagement with and proxy voting at portfolio companies on behalf of clients globally.
BlackRock aims to take a common view in-house regarding our engagement and voting policies and uses the BIS group to develop, communicate and implement these policies across the 95 markets and approximately 16,000 shareholder meetings at which the firm votes each year.
The VP/Director will lead Quantitative Research and Analytics for BIS. S/he will be responsible for creating a global, data-centric research capability to complement the fundamental, more qualitative company-specific research conducted by BIS voting analysts. The person in this role will lead new quantitative research using large data sets - to link our sustainability-related investment convictions to our KPIs and to demonstrate the impact of our engagement and voting on long term value creation by portfolio companies. Working with regional analysts, s/he will identify the research inputs needed to inform engagement and voting and develop capabilities for capturing BIS research outputs (e.g., Aladdin Research Notes, proprietary ESG ratings in future). In this role, the VP/Director will also build and maintain various tools and processes in support of BIS' voting and client reporting operations.
The successful candidate will possess a passion for creative and critical thinking about the stewardship ecosystem, investment research, ESG-oriented data analysis, as well as desire to partner closely with stewardship and investment research teams to exchange ideas.
