The Dean of Residential Life oversees the residential program in support of the students and residential faculty. He/she reports directly to the Dean of Community Life to ensure that all aspects of the boarding program are in alignment with the mission of Cheshire Academy.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Oversee the Residential program
Facilitate all Residential Faculty Training throughout the year
Facilitate monthly meetings with all House Heads
Oversee Residential Faculty reviews and develop the Rubric for Excellence in Residential Programming
Facilitate meetings with boarding students to discuss and review the school’s policies, procedures, and behavioral expectations.
Provide housing assignments and residential programming for all boarding students. Oversee daily, weekend and vacation permissions and travel.
Communicate with faculty, administration, parents, and students on all issues, concerns, and aspects of boarding life.
Assign and supervise an effective faculty duty team program for weeknight and weekend coverage of campus activities.
Work with the Director of Institutional Research and Strategic Initiatives as well as the Dean of the Community Life on the creation and upkeep of a Residential Life Curriculum
Maintain the section of the Student and Family handbook specifically related to the residential program.
Serve as an Adminitrator on Duty (AOD) and run one weekend duty team
Possibly teach one academic class as directed by the Assistant Head of School for Academics.
Serve on the Residential Life Curriculum Committee
Perform other duties as assigned by Dean of Community Life and/or Head of School.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree in education administration or related field preferred
Demonstrated leadership experience in an academic setting
3-5 years of experience in residential/community life at an independent boarding school or college
Demonstrated experience managing a variety of staff/faculty
Experience in program development, workshop planning
Experience in managing people in complex interpersonal environments
Integrity, creativity, and a keen sense of humor
Familiarity with coordinating multifaceted work schedules
Proficiency in balancing multiple duties and responsibilities
Acute organizational skills and attention to detail
Adept at communicating with students, teachers, and parents on a wide variety of topics
Creativity in problem-solving and in programming
Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills
This position is temporary for 2020-21 academic year but could possibly turn into full-time for 2021-22.
