Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the lab assistant will be primarily involved in a research project on eating disorders in men. This project is investigating a novel, group-based, peer co-led, eating disorder prevention program for young men. The primary goal is to compare this novel program, the Body Project: More than Muscles, to an active control intervention condition. Under close supervision, the lab assistant will assist in the routine tasks associated with quality data collection, organization, and maintenance for the randomized controlled trial. Assist in collecting surveys and assessments in coordination with study staff. Perform other miscellaneous duties and responsibilities as required.
Graduation from high school or a GED and one (1) year of laboratory experience or two (2) years of college including courses in experimental, Clinical Psychology, Biological Psychology, Cognitive Science, Cognitive Neuroscience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Familiarity with psychological assessment techniques.
Excellent interpersonal skills needed in interactions with patients, including appropriate interview techniques, diplomacy and confidentiality.
Organizational, scheduling, and record keeping skills.
Experience interacting effectively with co-workers as well as subjects.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
Highly self-motivated and reliable, able to solve problems independently and with initiative.
Ability to maintain confidentiality in accordance with Human Subjects requirements.
Specific experience in scientific presentations and manuscript writing.
Familiarity with body image and eating disorders in male populations.
Strong general computer skills, including familiarity with common programs, such as Microsoft Office, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, and basic statistical software (SPSS).
