CCE of Saratoga County is seeking a Local Agriculture Coordinator to serve as a member of the Association team to effectively coordinate and deliver local agriculture programs in the communities of Saratoga County.
This position will effectively deliver, market, and provide strong ongoing support for agricultural enterprise development, sustainable rural development and preservation, Farm to School, and other local agriculture related programs by working closely with farmers, schools, program participants, and other program staff to help ensure robust, sustained program participation.

Bachelor's Degree in related field. Associate Degree in related field and two years' transferrable program experience may substitute for a Bachelor's degree.
Experience relevant to the role of the position.
Travel Requirements - Ability to meet frequent travel requirements associated with this position. A valid NYS driver's license with the ability to drive and driving record acceptable for Association insurance coverage are required. Regularly transports youth participants to county and state fairs, trips, etc. Frequently uses personal and/or Association vehicles.
Ability to work flexible hours, which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.
Coordination Skills - Ability to effectively coordinate program efforts including data management and reporting, scheduling and coordinating programs and events, compiling and maintaining materials and resources, following financial reporting requirements.
Program Skills - Ability to effectively deliver related programs and training. Serve as an effective resource for farmers, schools and others. Maintain program participant and volunteer data confidentiality. Ability to effectively participate in professional team efforts.
Communication & Marketing Skills - Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with farmers, schools, program participants, employees and others through a variety of media. Ability to effectively market program through social, print and other media, resulting in robust program participation. Ability to recruit farmers, producers, schools and others for the program. Ability to relate effectively to co-workers, advisors, community and professional leaders.
Computer Skills - Proficiency or ability to learn and effectively use software including use of the internet, program related software, and Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Excel.

Coursework in agriculture, food systems, or related areas.
Experience with Cooperative Extension or other similar educational organizations.
Position Responsibilities & Essential Functions
Program Delivery - 10%
Deliver existing educational programs in the areas of agricultural enterprise development, sustainable rural development and preservation, and Farm to School as assigned and in collaboration with nutrition education staff.
Deliver programs on Produce Safety Alliance Trainer & GAP certification.
Foster acceptance of program, methods and policies to address community and individual needs and consider diverse audiences.
Serve as subject matter resource in discipline as part of program delivery and on assigned committees? provide standard responses.
Interact with program participants as part of program delivery.
Represent CCE of Saratoga County before the public, community leaders, government officials, or Cornell as part of program delivery. Represent the Association on the Agricultural and Farmland Protection Board committee.
Assist in creation of lesson plans to deliver educational program, for example, agriculture curriculum for high school students.
May assist in teaching innovative educational programs.
Direction - 5%
Working under the established guidelines, develop and enhance relationships with appropriate volunteers, agencies, organizations, industries and community leaders to promote local agriculture programs and to recruit new volunteer leaders in the communities of Saratoga County.
Assist with planning local agriculture and overall Association fundraising efforts.
Assist with establishing program goals and priorities.
Assist supervisor with the planning of educational programs.
Assist with development of marketing strategies, public affairs and special events to reach target audiences and meet program objectives.
Assist in identifying community and fiscal resources for program continuance and enhancement.
Provide supervisor with program related information to assist the budget development process.
Management - 10%
Solve problems and resolve conflicts that arise within local agriculture programs utilizing appropriate policies and procedures and with supervisor guidance as needed.
Assist in recruitment and provide oversight to high school student participants in local agriculture programs in field settings.
Assist with identifying, anticipating, recommending and planning for program needs/supplies.
Assist with effectively managing the program budget and grant requirements.
Assist in identifying ways to reduce costs and maximize existing resources.
Directly supervise seasonal staff and interns working with the supervisor to manage training, time cards, resolve issues, complaints, etc.
Manage volunteer recruitment and oversight for Farm to School volunteers.
Coordination/Operation - 70%
Coordinate local agriculture programs including agricultural enterprise development, sustainable rural development and preservation, Farm to School, Sundae On the Farm, and other one day farm tour programs. Assist with coordinating other youth (4-H) and adult (for example, CCE Equine) programs as needed.
Organize local agricultural tours and workshops concentrating on beginning farmer issues and general livestock production.
Schedule and perform farm visits as needed.
Network with partners on workshops to learn of issues and challenges related to farm product delivery into schools.
Survey farmers regarding produce they can offer schools (when, how much, price, etc.).
Share results with school cafeteria managers to determine product interest.
Meet with school cafeteria and fiscal staff to coordinate a memorandum of agreement (MOA) on procurement (with the supervisor) - to help determine the quantity and price point the school is interested in purchasing.
Survey farmers and schools to determine what equipment is needed to process fresh produce (then purchase equipment).
Coordinate trainings (with Association nutrition educator) for food service staff on processing and nutritional value of fresh produce.
Coordinate a plan to support storing, processing, and transporting fresh produce.
Coordinate meal plans with cafeteria managers featuring locally produced farm products in collaboration with the Association nutrition educator.
Coordinate taste testing events at local schools for students, faculty, and administrators to connect consumers directly to the producers providing the food. Taste tests will be in collaboration with the Association nutrition educator.
Compile existing resources into educational program materials.
Implement established program schedules.
Effectively maintain existing relationships with volunteers, program participants, outside organizations, and others to help ensure robust and sustained program participation and program success.
Maintain communication with constituents and the community through variety of methods such as newsletters, e-mails, electronic technology, internet, social media, website postings and content.
Coordinate promotion of program efforts through public relation initiatives and networking/collaborating with government, economic, educational and other organizations.
Provide information for preparation of reports, impact statements, and success stories on program progress and accomplishments for funders, advisory committees, Board and others as necessary.
Draft standard and nonstandard communications, requiring only occasional guidance from supervisor.
On a regular basis transport self and program related materials in vehicles.
On a regular basis lift, move and/or transport program materials.
Collect evaluations and other data from program participants.
Prepare and submit expense reports.
Perform event set up and break down (room set up, tables, chairs, cleaning up, etc.).
Book rooms and other locations for assigned programs.
Perform data entry, program and event registrations, and complete paperwork for assigned programs.
Order and maintain inventory of programs materials and supplies. Communicate with supervisors if materials are needed.
Professional Improvement - 5%
In cooperation with Supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes and Association priorities.
Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension and perform other duties as assigned.
Health and Safety - Applied to all duties and functions.
Support the Association to maintain a safe working environment.
Be familiar with and strive to follow any applicable federal, state, local regulations, Association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement and standard.
