Sarcos is seeking a highly motivated and hands-on senior controls engineer. The individual will play a critical role in the development and implementation of control algorithms, as well as software across a multitude of robotics and electro-mechanical product development projects. This position demands exceptional creativity to develop innovative solutions for high performance devices. It requires both a sound understanding of fundamental engineering and control system principles and hands on abilities to conduct laboratory testing. The successful candidate will be assigned to develop first of a kind and/or state-off the art devices.
Develop and implement new robotics control policies
Develop test procedures and conduct experimental evaluation of the control policies
Perform dynamic simulations and quantitative analysis of the control
Provide technical support as needed during system design and project planning
Write technical reports, papers and proposals, and prepare presentation materials and present results at meetings
Ability to multitask and prioritize
Strong analytical and interpersonal skills
Innately possesses accountability, fearless risk-taking, and measurable achievement
Able to work independently, with minimal supervision
Persuasive oral/written communication abilities
Flexible and adaptable (willing to work on other technical problems as needed)
Insatiable curiosity for science, technology and understanding of how things work
Ph. D Engineering (EE, ME CS or Physics) or M.Sc (Eng., or Physics) + 4 yrs. with practical and theoretical experience in robotics or system control, or equivalent.
Linear Control (Theoretical and Applied Experience)
System Dynamics theoretical and practical knowledge
Hands-on experience (experimental background in control systems and robotics)
Software: C, C++, Matlab,
Design experience with lead/lag feedback loop compensation
Experience with any advanced digital control algorithms such as:
State Space Control
Robotics experience is desirable but not necessary
Ideal candidate will have experience in:
Humanoid and Legged Robots Control
Autonomous robot control (UGV, UAV)
High-fidelity force-reflection teleoperation
Featherstone Spatial Vector Techniques
Applied Control (theoretical and practical)
Actuation and Sensing Technologies
Electro-magnetic actuators and transmissions operation and control
Sensing technology relevant to robotics
Experience integrating servo control equipment
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
Work is performed Monday through Friday with ability to work overtime and weekends.
Safety awareness is absolutely essential at all times while in the work area.
Must be able to stand and sit for extended times.
