The Area Coordinator serves as part of the Residential Education team and is responsible for the education and daily management of residential students. This position has an oversight of student Community Advisors. The Area Coordinator supports in the development and administration of community engagement, safety, crisis management, student leadership, and retention. The Area Coordinator will assist in the development and planning of processes such as off campus living education, student leadership recruitment and training, living learning communities programming, and departmental assessment.
The position supports Residence Life and Housing Services and the Division of Student Affairs initiatives that promote the Athenian spirit and Wellness efforts at the University.
The Area Coordinator is a full-time, live-on professional position. This role is a live-on 12 month position, that participates in on call duty response (including Summer/Thanksgiving/Winter break periods). Potential for overtime for after hour needs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Oversees the supervision of Community Advisors and other student employees. Supervision includes hiring, training, work allocation, regular meetings and performance management.
Assures staff compliance with university policies, procedures, standards and state and federal regulations including FERPA, Title IX, ADA and others as appropriate.
Supports housing operations (including but not limited to assigning rooms, facilitating room changes, resolving roommate conflicts, work orders, coordinating check in/out, updating and distributing license agreements and assessing room condition and changes, as necessary).
Coordinates with Housing Coordinator the Room Change Process during both Fall and Spring semester (house residents and complete paperwork).
Collaborates with Facilities Management, Campus Security, Bon Appetit Dining Services, Campus Events; and other departments associated with the maintenance of the residence halls and student safety.
Facilitate weekly CA staff meetings, conduct bi-weekly CA one-on-ones, track CA programs, and maintain CA budget and duty schedules.
Support an extensive CA training program (Fall CA-(2 weeks), Spring CA (2 days), and in-service training throughout the semester. Training will be coordinated with the Director of Residence Life, Assistant Director of Residence Life, and other professional staff. Area Coordinator will oversee the logistics (reserving rooms, coordinating guest speakers, printing all materials, and creating materials for the presentations) and give feedback on potential training topics in the future.
Support with university Community Standards, Title IX, and Residence Life and Housing Services incident response, adjudication and resolutions processes by triaging incident reports, sending summons emails to students, meeting with students, and sending resolution letters. Counsel resident students on issues such as adjustment to college life and roommate mediation. Work closely with the Director or Assistant Director of RLHS on advising, discipline and policy issues. Maintain accurate records of student conduct appointments and outcomes.
Oversee the MOUNT Programming model and ensure program focus on support of the whole person (i.e. personal development, community living, academic achievement and social interaction).
Collaborate with university offices and programs to listen to the needs of resident students and respond appropriately.
Interact regularly with campus security on safety concerns and emergency situations.
