Under the direction of the Executive Director of Pharmacy and Research, this Assistant Director manages the implementation and maintenance of clinical programs including interdisciplinary pharmacy initiatives. The individual will serve as a resource for team members and other partners in all processes associated with the implementation of outpatient clinical programs and related technology. The Assistant Director will also contribute to the growth of various collaborations and clinical initiatives through research, prioritization, analysis, and stakeholder communications.
As a member of the pharmacy management team, this Assistant Director is responsible for assuring that the Ambulatory Pharmacy Clinical Program is planned, organized and delivered in a manner that meets the needs of UTMC patients, physicians, nurses and team members. The Assistant Director champions inter-functional collaboration and communication across work areas and departments to support the ambulatory pharmacy practice. With the executive director and other managers, he/she implements the strategic initiatives.
Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
Assure creation of sustainable plans for development, review and utilization of each medication and combination regimen within the interdisciplinary pharmacy care management platforms (e.g., oncology, hepatology, multiple sclerosis, solid organ transplantation, autoimmune diseases)
Review drug care plans in regards to indications for drugs used, specifically dose, scheduling, monitoring, and any additional information suggested by physician advisors
Through networking and professional presence, engage physician advisors to review, share feedback and support ambulatory pharmacy services growth and development
Track pending FDA approvals, major label changes, or other events that may impact drug use
Develop/assess outcome measures to evaluate clinical usage, trends, and adherence
Develop and execute presentations for internal and external audiences related to clinical initiatives
Foster positive working relationships between physician practices, external partners, manufacturers, consultants, organizational leaders and other team members
Implement and manage pharmacists in clinics to improve management of chronic disease
Evaluate, implement, and oversee additional programs such as hospital-based PBM and formulary, MTM billing, home infusion opportunities, discharge pharmacist/techs, and accredited residency programs, all in a full model of care framework
We are seeking a candidate with experience in Ambulatory Pharmacy and development/management of ambulatory practice sites and programs for the position of Assistant Director of Pharmacy. The ideal candidate will have a Doctorate of Pharmacy from an ACPE-accredited College of Pharmacy and a Pharmacy Residency from an ASHP accredited residency program with ambulatory emphasis preferred. Three to five years of experience in ambulatory pharmacy is required with at least one year of management experience preferred.
