Under direction, the incumbent will serve as the Clinical Research Supervisor of the Geriatric Psychiatry Division, Stein Institute for Research on Aging and the Center for Healthy Aging. This position will contribute important original ideas pertaining to the planning, development, modification, and execution of new research studies and ancillary studies that build on existing work, which involves overseeing several schizophrenia and healthy aging projects including: Psychosis and Aging, Multi-Component Intervention for Diabetes Risk Reduction in Adults with Serious Mental Illnesses (MIDAS), and IBM Artificial Intelligence and Healthy Aging study.
The incumbent will be responsible for supervising a complex research team, including training, mentoring, and setting work direction for a team of junior research associates and support staff. This includes daily interactions, monthly and annual work performance evaluations, devising work schedules, and participating in all aspects of the hiring process. In addition, the incumbent will be responsible for developing and maintaining all IRB documentation for over 20 clinical research studies. The incumbent will have grant writing and development responsibilities, which include designing portions of proposals for research and developing strategic plans for study implementation.
Additional roles are management of study recruitment, including the development and implementation of the online informed consent database; training staff on study assessments; and presenting in the community. Finally, the incumbent will be expected to independently collect and analyze scientific data for publication; identify and develop new research projects; review and approve all documents to be submitted to Human Research Protection Program; continue to coordinate new and existing trials; and train and monitor research staff assigned to these protocols. Receives assignments in the form of objectives with goals and the processes by which to attain them. Supervises daily operations, and performance requirements. Has full oversight for staffing, performance management, and programmatic workflow of project.
Bachelor's Degree in related area (Behavioral Science).
Three (3) or more years of relevant experience in working with older adults with psychosis.
Combination of knowledge and skill in the fields of aging and mental health with strong demonstrated experience working with older patients with cognitive deficits and schizophrenia and deep knowledge of these disorders. Experience working in a mental health services setting.
Working knowledge of clinical or laboratory research, clinical trial recruitment, eligibility, protocol adherence, quality data submission and adverse event reporting.
Thorough knowledge of DSM-V criteria for multiple clinical research projects.
Demonstrated skills in employee supervision and HR administration. Demonstrated experience in training others, particularly in the field of research.
Proven experience working with individuals with a mental illness and working in community settings (i.e., board-and-care homes, independent living facilities).
Good interpersonal skills, including problem-solving, teamwork development, leadership, mentorship. Effectively motivate and work well with others to achieve common goals. Ability to cultivate relationships with multiple stakeholders at various levels of administration.
Ability to perform all commonly applicable functions in word processing and spreadsheet software. Effectively uses campus' clinical information and documentation application programs. Proven ability utilizing clinical trial management systems.
Proven ability to make original contribution to the research design and development of studies related to psychosis and/or aging.
