On May 6, 2020, after a two-year rule-making process, the U.S. Department of Education published the final federal Title IX regulations dictating how schools must respond to incidents of sexual harassment. For colleges and universities, the regulations require formal hearings in most cases. At the hearings, parties' advisors are permitted to cross-examine other parties and witnesses. If a party arrives at a hearing without an advisor, the school must provide one at no cost for purposes of conducting cross-examination. As described in the responsibilities section, Syracuse University is seeking skilled attorneys to participate in these sexual harassment hearings as advisors and to conduct cross-examination.
Attorney advisors will be paid at a flat rate of $150 to attend one training session, and $250 per case file review and hearing stand-by role. If an advisor participates in a hearing, the University will pay them at an hourly rate of $100, up to a maximum of $750 per day.
