The Sr. Community Outreach Specialist position will be comprised of HIV linkage to care (50%) and clinical support for The Johns Hopkins Women’s HIV Health Program gynecological program (50%). Responsibilities will include provision of linkage and retention to HIV care for incarcerated populations of the Maryland state prison system. The candidate will also provide clinical support in the gynecological clinics. The candidate will also provide HIV rapid testing, counseling and appropriate referrals to HIV care, partner notification and/or pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) services. The candidate should have the experience and/or knowledge level to function independently in these roles.
A HIV Outreach Worker, Level III should have a thorough knowledge of psychosocial services and linkages in the Baltimore EMA and Ryan White HIV care network community including how those services are needed to achieve medication adherence and optimal health outcomes. Other duties may include community education; development and facilitation of support groups; participation in Johns Hopkins community advisory boards; and knowledge of research protocols specific to relevant populations.
The HIV outreach Worker will act as a representative of the Johns Hopkins Women’s HIV Program at a local and national level and may be required to do public speaking.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Provision and documentation in the medical record of HIV linkage services efforts and clinic support
Referral and follow up to psychosocial support services
Clinical support to providers in the obstetrical/gynecological clinic to include patient screenings in EPIC
Provide patient access to research opportunities.
Attendance at the annual Women and HIV conference and the clinical care of the HIV positive patient
Conference and other local HIV educational opportunities encouraged
Organize community presentations on select HIV topics such as HIV/STI prevention. Participation in peer support groups in the community. Facilitate discussions regarding safer sex strategies, sexually transmitted infections and accessing care.
Act as a patient advocate for access to research and clinical protocols.
HIV rapid testing, counseling and linkage to care, referral to PrEP services and/or partner notification services.
Public speaking to professional groups and political interest groups as a representative of the Johns Hopkins Women’s HIV program, at a local and national level.
Minimum Qualifications (Required)
High School Diploma/GED.
Four (4) years of related experience including two (2) years minimum experience in the medical field and two (2) years minimum experience with HIV in woman.
* JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for the required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job. *
Five (5) plus years’ experience in HIV
Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Have a valid Driver’s license must be able to drive to carry out duties of the position
Experience and/or knowledge level to function independently.
Thorough knowledge of psychosocial services in the Baltimore EMA, - and the ability to address the client’s psychosocial needs.
HIV rapid testing and counseling. Training after hire acceptable
Experience and/or knowledge level compatible with functioning as an advisor on issues specific to HIV and women on a community (CAB’s), local and national level.
Must have proven HIV counseling or social work experience for minimum of two (2) years.
