We are looking for an accomplished and creative Systems Administrator to join our Linux Team. This Systems Administrator will reliably manage infrastructure and integrated services that support Miami University’s academic, research and business missions. If you are a Linux systems administrator who enjoys developing infrastructure as code, cloud and datacenter operations, and building reliable, flexible infrastructure with a purpose, this is the job for you! As a Linux systems administrator if you enjoy exploring new technologies and conducting controlled experimentation within the system infrastructure realm you will excel in this role. Our Linux systems administrators work collaboratively as a team to diagnose problems and transform our infrastructure. We are a learning-based team that supports individuals to better their skills through guided experienced-based learning in service to the University. You will perform the following: • Linux system administration and configuration within the command line • Incident management, service requests, and change management • Linux-based scripting and automation using tools like bash and Puppet • Working collaboratively as part of a team of systems administrators Reporting to the Manager of Enterprise Database & Systems Operation. You'll work with a team of Linux systems administrators. As a member of this team your responsibilities can include a broad range of infrastructure: • AWS Cloud Infrastructure and on-premise Linux Server administration • Automation of infrastructure administration using Terraform, Puppet and other automation scripting tools. • Enterprise alerting and logging systems • VMware vSAN Administration • Server infrastructure for enterprise database services • Enterprise backup • Infrastructure for our CI/CD services. • Enterprise storage • High-performance compute cluster You will serve in an on-call rotation and carry a smartphone. Otherwise normal working hours. • Bachelor's degree and 0-2 years of experience working in Information Technology; OR Associate's degree and 2 years of experience, including 0-2 years of experience working in Information Technology; • Experience troubleshooting complex Information Technology problems (may be concurrent with required experience listed above); • This position is available to persons who are currently located and authorized to work in the United States on a full-time and indefinite basis. • Two (2) years of experience working in Information Technology • Basic knowledge of Linux operating system; • General experience with systems administration support and problem resolution • Basic experience with system administration using current flavors of Linux operating system • General experience administering many physical and virtual Linux servers in a complex and heterogeneous environment • Experience working with incident and change management procedures • You have a working understanding of cloud infrastructure basics including AWS • You have a working understanding of enterprise-class networking, including VLANs, routing, and firewall principals. • You have a working understanding of VMware virtualization infrastructure • You have a working understanding of server automation best practices • You have a working understanding of object-oriented programing • You have a working understanding of enterprise backup solutions • Industry Certifications: VMware VCAx, Linux+, Puppet Certification, AWS Certifications
