The Avel Gordly Center for Healing is one of the few practices in the Northwest that focuses on culturally sensitive care for the African and African-American community. We have a close collaboration with community partners to ensure that we reach a population who are under served. We recognize how trauma affects the health of our patients and we strive to remove the stigma that is associated with mental illness. We provide cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness based therapy, psychotherapy, and medication management. We have a diverse group of expert practitioners who provide individual, group, marital, couples, and family therapy.
At the Avel Gordly Center for Healing part of our mission is to provide education and awareness for the African American and African communities about issues of mental health and addictions.
At the OHSU Avel Gordly Center for Healing, we:
Facilitate healing in children, adults, couples, families and community
Employ Trauma-Informed practices and approaches
Serve everyone and focus on the provision of Afro-centric culturally specific and responsive services
Engage and educate community through teaching and training
The appointee shall provide services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the universitys missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service.
This position supports the medical director of the Avel Gordly Center for Healing along with the licensed and unlicensed counselors that provide patient services to patients. This position works with patients and helps coordinate best practices amongst the clinicians.
MD or DO with board certification in Psychiatry
Active DEA certification
Expertise in trauma-informed care
Double-boarding in Psych sub-specialties
Experience with culturally specific populations
