Beaver Country Day School is seeking candidates for its teaching fellowship program to join our school community for the 2020-2021 academic year. This is a mentored position open to first-year or aspiring teachers. For those applicants enrolled in a graduate program who are seeking teacher licensure, Beaver’s fellowship program fulfills all credit hours while preparing apprentice teachers for careers in both independent and public schools.
Beaver’s teaching fellowship…
Provides immersive experience, from classroom observation to shadowing both teachers and students to supervised and independent teaching.
Explores curriculum from beyond the textbook and allows young teachers to design their own lessons, units, and projects.
Matches teaching fellows with mentor teachers to develop a comprehensive skill set in the classroom that includes lesson planning, delivering actionable feedback, engaging students, and other essential instructional tools.
Will learn among a faculty that is also constantly learning. Beaver teachers are committed to a practice that is both iterative and open to feedback.
Includes fellows in division, department, and grade team meetings as well as faculty-wide professional development opportunities.
Equips teaching fellows with experience in academic advisor, extracurricular club, and affinity group roles.
Welcomes teaching fellows to participate in affinity groups and Beaver’s Break Bread series among other development opportunities around diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Are interested in pursuing a career in teaching at the secondary school level and are looking for a good place to start that will be supportive of their learning and equip them to move forward in a public or independent school.
Do not need to have any prior classroom teaching experience.
