Involves the development and implementation of policies, procedures, standards and protocols for quality organ or islet cell transplant patient and donor care. Includes the establishment of mechanisms to monitor the quality of transplant care in conjunction with the hospital wide plan and ensures compliance with applicable accrediting agencies and regulatory standards. Involves interdisciplinary patient care from a team of experts who represent medical disciplines as well as support services. Directs the short and long term planning of the clinical and business operations of transplant services for the health system. Includes compliance with all applicable internal policies and external regulatory agencies.
The Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) Program Administrator reports directly to the LLC Board of Directors, and is responsible for managing the day-to-day activities of the UC San Diego Health/ Sharp joint Bone Marrow Transplant program. Responsible for marketing, contracting and financial management with direct accountability for a financial manager. Develop and implement strategic business, marketing and operating plans; oversight and administration of patient billing systems; establishment of an inter-facility contracting/marketing committee; develop and monitor of capital and operating budgets. Review monthly financial reports and provides justification for variances. Actively involved in resource management and performance improvement. Focus on benchmark measures in order to monitor both the quality of services as well as patient satisfaction. In collaboration with the Medical Director, lead program development initiatives and work collaboratively with both internal and external customers.
Develops and implements operational processes focused on high quality transplant services and the coordination of care across multiple, complex departments/units.
Develops, implements and monitors financial plans for division. Reviews and approves fiscal planning proposals for new programs, annual budgets and long term goals. Leads fund development efforts collaborating with medical director.
Directs regulatory compliance and reporting. Ensures compliance with internal policies, state and federal regulations and requirements. Oversees process for accreditation and other surveys, data submission and verification activities.
Develops and oversees a continuous quality improvement program for transplant division consistent with federal and state guidelines, regulatory requirements, and quality improvement plan.
Directs and ensures coordination across medical center departments and/or clinics.
Directs transplant marketing opportunities in collaboration with Medical Director and marketing department.
Collaborates with transplant contracting to develop client partnerships and business opportunities.
Provides guidance to subordinate managers with human resources issues. Responsible for recruitment, performance management, professional development, performance evaluation and corrective action. Collaborates with Labor Relations on bargaining unit issues and ensures compliance with labor contracts.
Instills strong management practices to create a culture of teamwork, collaboration, and timely achievement of objectives and goals.
Directs staff education programs. Works with clinical educators and leadership to evaluate core competencies in clinical care.
Participates in system-wide committees and strategic planning with senior leaders across services to develop plans that improve health care delivery and the coordination and/or integration of clinical services. Participates in national committees focusing on advancing the field of transplantation (UNOS and other professional associations).
Builds and maintains strategic partnerships across the system and in the community at large to facilitate the achievement of strategic goals and objectives.

Bachelor's degree in nursing or other healthcare profession, or a combination of comparable clinical education and/or experience.
Registered Nurse in the State of California, if applicable.
Eight or more years of relevant experience.
Experience and proven success in clinical management, with progressive expertise in transplant center management.
