Essential Functions: JOB PURPOSEThe Camp Counselor for the Wayne State C2 Pipeline Warriors College Experience assumes responsibility for high school students in an 11 day residential camp, with direct assignment of up to 12 student participants. Collaboratively creates an environment which promotes academic, career and social development. Assists in generating a positive and nurturing atmosphere for students, while encouraging them to push their boundaries. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Implement experience-based lesson plans and workshops addressing social issues relevant to the lives of C2 Pipeline students.Participate in day and night activities; including meals, field trips and community service projects.Serve as a role-model to students by displaying responsible behavior and personal integrity.Attend and actively engage in staff training and professional development sessions.Communicate program rules to students, ensuring safety and responsible student behavior.Maintain a professional relationship with all student participants and staff, while upholding clear staff-student boundaries at all times.Build and maintain a positive relationship with all C2 Pipeline and partnering organization stakeholders, e.g., visiting donors, site staff, parents, etc.Complete tasks assigned by the Camp Coordinator/Asst. Camp Coordinator on a timely basis.Facilitate appropriate implementation of program curriculum and resources.Perform other duties, as assigned. Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEDUCATION: Some college, will consider completion of sophomore year of college with relevant experience as a camp counselor and/or working with high school age youth. EXPERIENCE: Experience teaching and/or facilitating programs for high school age youth preferred.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:Demonstrated effectiveness working with students from low-income and underrepresented backgrounds. Ability to form positive and professional relationships with ethnically and culturally diverse youth and staff. Demonstrates ethical and moral character. Willingness to be an active problem solver as unexpected challenges arise. Maintain open channels of communication with Camp Coordinator, Asst. Camp Coordinator, other Camp Counselors and Mentors. Ability to give and receive constructive feedback. Ability to make sound and timely decisions in the interest of C2 Pipeline program mission and goals.
