The University of Minnesota Medical School - Twin Cities seeks a dynamic leader and educator for the Assistant Dean for Curriculum position. In this role, the Assistant Dean provides oversight, vision, and strategy across all years of curriculum for medical students in the Undergraduate Medical Education program. The Assistant Dean is responsible for leading continuous improvement in the curriculum in line with the UME Strategic Plan, with significant input from faculty and students, and with consideration of national conversation in curriculum best practice. This position reports to the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Medical Education. This is a full-time appointment, 0.8 FTE administrative, 0.2 clinical or research faculty.
Responsibilities (80% Administrative Appointment)
Provide leadership and day-to-day direction, coordination, and implementation of a successful pre-clinical and clinical curriculum for the MD program
Provide administrative leadership to innovate, develop, and ensure an integrated curriculum that is in compliance with all LCME accreditation standards.
Explore, design, and implement evidence-based curricular changes that are innovative, competency based, and aligned with the UME Strategic Plan
Participate in LCME accreditation efforts
Contribute as a member of the Office of Medical Education leadership team
Provide leadership and mentorship to course and clerkship directors
Teach and facilitate small groups in Years 1 & 2 courses (i.e., Essentials of Clinical Medicine and Foundations of Clinical Thinking)
Collaborate with Student Affairs to provide effective, timely student remediation as needed
Collaborate with Assistant Dean for Assessment and Evaluation on student assessment and program evaluation
Conduct scholarly work related to medical education and/or other areas of research in foundational, social, or behavioral sciences
Work collaboratively with our health science partners to engage in intentional interprofessional education
Develop existing clinical clerkship sites/LICs and create new clinical opportunities for students
Serve on Medical School committees as assigned
Associate Dean for UME (Robert Englander, MD, MPH)
Director of Integrated Education - Foundational Science (Kelaine Haas, PhD); Director of Integrated Education - Clinical Science (Jess Blum, PhD)
MD, DO, PhD, or relevant terminal degree in the health or biological sciences
Five years or more experience in medical education administration/educational leadership positions
Experience with medical student teaching
Eligible for an academic appointment within their respective academic field
Demonstrated commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion
Knowledge of LCME accreditation standards and continuous review and improvement processes to ensure compliance
Evidence of scholarship and innovation in the areas of teaching and learning in medical education
Knowledge in the science of learning and experience in implementing novel evidence-based strategies in medical education
Demonstrated ability and experience in working with a varied group of educators and stakeholders
